My 1st question is: Why is AT&T Universal Discover Card such a blood thirsty greedy, unethical company? Hoping for any answer or 2. Second question.. This is just another CLI story, but seriously, I am SHOCKED by this..

Macy's is having a big furniture sale- no interest (and I think no payments? not that that matters...) for 24 months..

Husband and I have furniture one rung up from college student's. Uncomfortable Ikea couch, bed with no headboard, etc. So I phoned to see if I could get a modest increase on my Macys account, currently at $1000 limit, in order to take advantage of the sale and upgrade our living space..

They approved me for $5500!!!! I can't believe it! The rep asked me how much I wanted and I said "I dunno, maybe $2000? Haven't really looked yet" - so first she tells me I have to go to the store, pick out what I wanted, and they'd approve me for that amount (on my Macys account, but somehow separate at the same time, it was confusing). So then I say, "ok, well can you check and see if I'm eligible for a CLI on my account anyway?" she puts me on hold for a good five minutes, and next thing I know- largest credit limit yet!!!!.

Cannot wait to pick out our new couch!!!..

I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I got an good answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could answer your Discover Card question..

Geez, I'm sorry to hear that (but thanks). Did they give you a reason? How long have you had the account?..

I got a card recently and I hope I get a decent limit increase, I expect nothing like that though...

You shouldn't have done that! I had a $200 credit limit for a while with them and got a big increase last month. They soft pull your report from time to time and their decision on CLI's is mostly based on that...

Here's my experience with Macy's CLI's- started with a $300 limit (store card) and did not get a CLI until I had three consecutive payments- went from $300 to $1000 after six months. I've now had the card for about a year and a half, and the $5500 is separate from my revolving limit, which is still at $1000 (just called to clarify that)- they granted me $5500 specifically for furniture and mattress purchases..

It remains to be seen if that will report..

I agree with Karen that it was hasty to close your account- Macy's will grow with you, it just takes a bit of time, and they expect regular purchases...

FYI - and sort of a warning.... You CAN NOT get a 24 mo deffered interest (its not *no* interest but Deffered, and yes you make payments) on your standard revolving Macys account. READ CAREFULLY, this will save you a hard pull when you go in to make your purchase. Since you got approved on your Revolving for that amount but really all you want it for is to make the furniture purchase. Just call in at the time of purchase, DO NOT LET THE STORE REP DO IT and ask that they.

TRANSFER.

$XXXX from your type 20 to a type 32 SEAT account (this is the type that gets you the no interest). Otherwise the credit rep will almost be guaranteed to pull your CR if you just try to set up the account type, especially since you just got this increase.... Now heres the downside, once the transfer is done it cant be undone. What I mean is customers are allowed to ask that a credit line be transfered from the type 20 to another account type just not the other way around. If you were to pay off the furniture and want to move your GL back to the revolving you would be re-reviewed for a standard increase which *may* end up in a hard pull..

In fact.. call into the credit department, ask to speak to a Credit Granting supervisor (make sure it's not a customer service supervisor) and ask that they set this up for you ahead of time. You may run into problems with trying this with a regular associate..

+2 you can reopen it is not too late, why make a decision to close (in the heat of the moment) that doesn't benefit your profile in any appreciable way?.

Reopen and thank Karen when you get a nice CLI in few.

Congrats OP!! Macy's is one of the most generous issuers IME, you done good!!..

I've had the account for over a year... still at $300. The only benefit to me is age at this point, but I doubt I'll use the card if it's reopened....

However... I'll call over the weekend and have it re-opened... but I'm only doing it for you guys... :-)..

Congrats! I just called to see if I had any love, and I got denied (though I am clean with 40% uti)..

So... I threw a tantrum (not really, no need to chime in people) and closed the account. Of well. I'll give business to those who provide me with the vehicle to do so....

But Congrats! I truly am jealous...
