First off, Why doesn't Costco take Visa or Discover Card? Thanks for any answer or 2. Another question I got... So, I've decided that I'm tired of being treated like a red-headed step-child by Chase since the acquired my checking and Discover credit card accounts with WAMU. I've been looking around at tome options where I could move my checking and also get into a decent Discover card as well, since the terms on my WaMu-turned-Chase card kind of suck, and they won't even consider a CLI (does Chase even. |

I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I discover an answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could answer your Discover Card question..

No, no problems in Chex. As I said, my only negatives are my fairly high util (45%) and a few 30's that are nearly 4 years old. If I've got a better than even shot, I'll probably give it a try. I think my util will drop down to 42% once Chase actually reports the Discover credit card payments I made 3 weeks ago..
Any other ideas? USAA maybe? Any other CU's that are good (I have no military, so NFCU is out). I'm not completely attached to a CU, just looking for options for a decent banking relationship, which Chase just can't offer... |

Rob T,.
Do you have membership with USAA?Last year, I got denied over the phone after 2 days of joining. I had 9% utilization when I got deniedI got approved after I paid down most of my debt (4% Util.) a week ago.You may want to check the credit pull database on USAA. I heard they don't like high utilization. Try to pay it down before apply for anything (my advice).. Ron.. This post has been edited by. Ron1. : 17 January 2010 - 02:12 AM.. |

Credit unions are generally more conservative than banks are in order to protect their members, and Alliant is very conservative. So, unless you have good income and your DTI is low (and maybe lates are removed), I don't think Alliant will give you high enough CL. Also, Alliant doesn't participate in shared branching...

I thought that I had read that Alliant participated in COOP, but I've looked at so many recently it's all a blur. I'm not currently a USAA member. Any other ideas? TU/EQ are both right around 700, not sure about EX due to a bunch of INQ's on EX from when we were rate shopped for our car loan 10 months ago..
Can anyone confirm whether Alliant does or does not offer pre-approved CC's when opening an account?. This post has been edited by. Rob T. : 17 January 2010 - 02:37 AM.. |

USAA usually pulls EQ and Alliant CU gave me pre-approval when I joined last May. I heard they don't offer Discover card pre-approval any more..

Ron,.
Thanks a lot for those links. Not a lot of super recent info on them unfortunately, but I'm at least getting a feel for how they operate... |

Rob,.
You're welcome. Let me know if you need any help.. Ron... |

The lates, together with highish util make it a less than ideal time to apply, my guess is < than 50-50 shot at approval..
Cc app most likely a denial if you're over 30ish UTI ... you would have a better shot at Nationwide than Alliant with current stats IMO... |

Rob T,.
I don't think Alliant CU gives out pre-approval any more. I think they stopped to give any Discover card pre-approval. That's what I heard from the others. I could be wrong. My brother didn't get any pre-approval when he joined. He applied for the card and he got denied (no late, no charge-off) because of high utilization(46%).. By the way, do you have any negative from Chexsystem? Alliant will not give you membership if you have nay negative from Chexystem.. Ron.. This post has been edited by.
