DirecTV is awesome. I had them for 10 years. I recently switched to DishNetwork due to a price promo and am really regretting it. If you have an HDTV, DTV has a much much better picture than cable and their On-Demand actually includes stuff worth watching..

I miss my DirecTV.

DTV does not have a 30 day grace period once you are hooked up you have it for 1 year or 2 depending on equipment...

See if you can go back to DIRECTV at no cost.

(assuming DISHNETWORK will let you out for no charge)..

DTV would love to have me back....unfortunately they don't love me enough to cover the Dish cancellation fee of $15 x the 18 months remaining on my contract..

Yea both DTV and Dish are trying to move all new customers to the lease option. You can still buy the boxes but god help you if you end up with both leased and owned equipment on the same account as the CSR's of both companies seem to switch the tags around at random. You turn on a new box and suddenly the $600 DVR you bought now has a lease tag but the $100 standard receiver that was part of your "free install" is now yours to keep..

It's fixable, but a hassle..

There you go assuming that CSR's give a damn....

I worked for DTV tech support for 5 years. The actual "customer service" CSR's were clueless corporate drones who were not allowed to deviate from a script without 5 layers of manager approval. Best bet if this happens is to call tech support and have one of the techs fix it as it's a quick/easy fix (one flag to flip on the account) and they will appreciate the short call which will help their calltime metrics..

Cable companies are no better - I added a $14.99 per month phone line to my $150+ per month Cox cable TV/internet service account and they pulled an EQ hard to add the service - a hard pull to add $15/mo to my $150+/mo bill, and this after I'd been a customer for 3+ years with good payment history. My wife swears up and down they said nothing about a credit check when she was on the phone with them ordering it as well..

Interestingly, I added a bunch of services that took our business internet bill with Cox from about $300/mo to $7000/mo (I run a web hosting company so our ISP bills are huge) with no credit check at all. So, a hard EQ pull for $15/mo on a consumer account, and no credit check at all for $7k/mo on a business account. Crazy, eh?.

Att Uverse is a beast of it's own though.. Had all services listed and Uverse and Directv win by a long shot!..

I subscribe to truecredit monitoring system, It showed an inquiry on 12/22/09 via equifax which I assumed to be a hard inquiry, Direct tv said it would be a soft pull. I pulled my fico scores today and no inquiries were found, I asked the lady from myfico over the phone after I had to verify some security questions if there were any inquiries from direct tv, she said no.

I was happy but wanted to make sure so as I was reading through my credit report nothing showed up. lol I was trying to get this resolved for 4 Days now.... calling direct tv & equifax and nothing was resolved with them, They pointed the finger at each other until some miracle Today. Very weird. lol..

Thanks GEORGE, And Thank You everyone. My credit is getting back on track, I had 22 negatives removed so far with 8 more baddies left. I went on myfico's site and pulled my fico scores, it showed TU/728 EX/711 My experian report is the one giving me problems.....I have 6 baddies left to work on. So if my fako shows a 717 score with Experian, What do You think my real fico score would be ? There was a 27-33 point difference between my fico & fako scores with TU & EQ. Thank You...

There is currently a lawsuit against direct tv for "bait and switch" keep your eye out.. It might say $19.99 but you have to read the 5.5 print at the bottom of the ad....

Heres an example.. they offer $19.99 ad in a box, hd, and everything else and it's $59.99 a month plus taxes, fees, surcharges...

And theirs another lawsuit about how they offer promos like Premium channels for six months, yet there contracts are 12-24 months.. watch out is all I'm going to say...

And there is a cancellation fee of at least $250..
