First off, Who sings the music in the latest Discover Card advert? Looking forward for any answer. Second question of mine... After over a year of calling in maybe 5 times about dropped calls when ever I am in a house. They always refused to let me cancel my 26 lines (business account) and I refused to pay the ETF. We had about 13 months left on our contracts at an ETF of 200 each.. |

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I got an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably can help you..

Hmmm.....
I loved my Sprint Plan, but I am tired of the service problems.. |
I am loving my Verizon service..
It's actually better (more 3G coverage, clearer calls) than AT&T ever thought about being in my area... (And EVERYONE uses AT&T!). Sprint was good, but poor service in my home and lack of 3G in Louisiana (except New Orleans) forced me out... |
I've heard too many horror stories about Sprint. I recently went from T-Mobile to Cricket.
Cricket is way cheaper.. |

The iphone is the best business phone you can find (does just about everything, and has an ease of use better than any phone out there), but ATT can suck depending on where you are. Not sure what coverage in Ohio looks like, but for me Ive always had full bars and 3g, never dropped any calls. switching was the best choice ive made..

Just curious why someone who works from home wouldn't have a dedicated land line for business?..

I have a home office and a cell phone with unlimited minutes. I really hate having several email addresses, several phone numbers, etc. My clients call my cell phone and they get me or my voicemail they don't have to try several numbers. That's one reason, the other is why pay for a home phone when you can be mobile. What if I want to go from my office, to my car, to the road?.
I have an iPhone, however the new Android phones coming out seem to be pretty nice. I switched from Verizon to AT&T for the iPhone.. The nice thing about AT&T is you can make a voice call and have data at the same time, because of the GSM & CDMA 3G. Verizon is only 3G. Spring is bad. Personally if the phone and data at the same time is not an issue, I would give the Andorid phones a serious look. The verizon network is very good, and I travel a lot... |
What are you going to do when they turn off all 26 phones and you haven't identified a replacement? Seems like part of this process all along should have been to audition the other companies...
They have agreed to allow me to cancel all contracts noted the account, followed up with an email saying the same..
I dont have to cancel today,I can close them when I am ready since I have to port the numbers, and find new service for all of these lines.. Taken from OP's original post.. This post has been edited by. Beli. : 13 January 2010 - 09:47 PM.. |

A cell phone isn't as reliable as a land line. Simple as that. Calls can drop. The call quality (for the caller and receiver) is not as good. I can understand wanting to receive business calls when you are on the road or away from home and that's what cell phones are for. They shouldn't replace a land line.
I rarely hear about stolen, lost, or damaged land line phones. I do hear that for cellphones. So what do you do if something happens to your cell phone that you do business with? Are you going to explain to your clients that you missed their calls because you didn't have a phone to call them on? I hope you don't only store your business contacts in your cell phone... |
I agree. Not only that.. depending on the type of land line/voip phone you have, you can go into your settings and forward the # to your cell when you leave to go out on the road. At least I know my VOIP phone does that. Before I leave, I can log in set it to forward to a certain number, and it will forward the call to that number...

Google voice. If you need an invite let me know, I've got 2 left..

Sure. I'm also not running a life saving business. My clients prefer that I will communicate with them via a text message as well as voice. If a call drops, a call drops. It's not the end of the world. Call them back.
I'm happy with my lifestyle business. I don't need the stress and drama of freaking out if a call drops... So be it. There is always another customer.. Funny enough, my customers all love our business and have never had a complaint... |
There are more carrier grade components to complete your cell call than your voip call. I would rather have a cell phone than a voip line if I only had one...
That would be insane to store data in one place, cell phone or any other data. Back up your data... It's more important than you think...

I have a few sales people that use their iPhone and travel through out Ohio and have had nothing but trouble.
I do have a land line as well as an office line. However, my clients always call my cell. They know they can reach me there easily.. I have an email stating I can shut them off when I want all I have to do is call when ready.. Thanks.. |
I dont freak out. Its rude to the clients. I dont know what kind of work you are in, but I deal with highly politcial people, as well as Superintendents from schools on a daily basis. Often times when they call, they have only 2 mins to talk to me. If I drop a call, call them back, they may have stepped into a meeting, which is where the problem comes in. Its bad when some of my cleints actually schedule me a week out for a 5 min call..
Our sales staff is talking to a new client and drops a call. Its rude, yes I am sure they understand but it's not the point. It doesnt present a good image when we are selling them $50k+ website or service... |

Haen't you noticed that people just comment and don't read much? (to your last comment).. Also, I would never say the iphone is the best business phone, and I have one. I think Verizon is the best, and their Android is looking to be nice. From what I hear the Blackberry is a big No No as well. Just pull the battery out and put it back in, see how long it takes to reboot. Now, just think about when it locks up (which they do on a semi-regular basis) how long your down for...
I have backups of contacts....PC, Phone, and normally a written copy. Plus our PC's are backed up nightly on our servers..
But you guys have a good point that many dont consider.. |
I've got the iphone with AT&T and also had a wireless laptop card from Sprint, AT&T and now Verizon. Verizon's 3G wireless card is light years better than AT&T and Sprints. When the iphone contract is up with AT&T hopefully it will be available on Verizon's network because I would be happy to switch. So I'd recommend verizon if getting a signal in the most places and the least dropped calls are important..
Also, your out from the contract sounds too good to be true! Better make up your mind and port those puppies before they change their minds on that!!.. |
To add:.
I was prepared to read the whole contract to the rep. I dont think he liked that I am sure it would take some time and he wasnt prepaid for that... |
Look into the Motorola Droid on Verizon. There are many business class applications for it. Yes it's true you can't be on the phone and use data at the same time because of the way CDMA technology works but I feel the Droid is better than any phone that AT&T has right now...
I have the Droid and it's amazing but the Nexus One is coming this Spring for Verizon and I would wait for that...
