First of all Which visa or Discover Card credit card in Malaysia that has lowest interest rate? Thanks for any comment. Second question of mine... I'm about to go and fire BoA as my bank. Last month I joined a CU, and I will be using them for all my banking needs henceforth..

A month ago, I left all but ~$300 in my checking account, and $50 in my savings for two reasons:.

1) To give me time to switch over automatic billing info..

2) To avoid "minimum balance fees" - not sure if BoA has them, but I wouldn't be surprised, and didn't want to risk it..

Anyway, my question is - when I cancel my accounts with them, will I walk out of the bank with my money in my wallet, or will they mail me a check? I really want to get the cash right away, so I can deposit it into my CU on my way to work. If they say they can't give me cash for an account closure, what is my recourse?..

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I discover an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could assist you..

I think the savings will have a minimum balance of 300 or a $5 fee unless you have like a student savings..

Ebill do suck .. can you contact them and find out the days for withdrawal? it sounds like you are better off grabbing that money out yourself...

When I closed my BOA checking and saving I walked out with cash in my pocket. Like your self I made sure everything had cleared, walked in the branch and closed my accounts...

This is what happened for me, nice and easy..

Told the guy up front I wanted to close it. He combined my checking and savings into one account, then had me see the teller to withdraw it all. Once I did, he closed the accounts for me...

BOA charges $5 a month if you don't have $300 in your savings or do a automatic transfer into savings each month. I just keep some money in my BoA because they all so many ATM's and I REFUSE to pay $3 to use a BoA Atm...

Have you checked the offers online?.

Often have offers for a totally free savings account..

You can simply switch your old one out to the free one..

I did it for the MRS with no sweat...

I closed mine because I no longer want to provide revenue and business to big banks..

I think they should be "punished" for their horrible business practices, and taking my money away from them is the most I can really do..

In 2009, I cut off cell phone companies (hate 'em!) and quickly adjusted to life without a cell phone. In 2010, I cut off banks, and I haven't missed 'em one bit. In fact, my credit union is light years above and beyond what I got from BoA..

Throughout 2010, I'll be looking to chop off more "bad businesses" and "extra expenses" I don't really enjoy dealing with and don't need - not sure what's next, or what will even find it's way to the chopping block..

Big Banks though, I would really like to see these movements gain momentum, and having the populous closing their accounts en masse...

MB82x, I was like that for years..

Banked with CUs and avoided Big Mega Banks like the plague..

Sigh, unfortunately/fortunately I am having to do more and more transactions and need a bank (actual physical location) that around every corner. I just cant escape the convenience factor...

Most CUs let you do ATM deposits, I think... but I understand not wanting to do that... I have NEVER trusted dropping my money into a machine..

Want to talk about convenience? My CU is inside of a Federal Gov't building... if I need to walk in, I need to take off my watch, belt, coat, sunglasses... wallet, iPod, keys, coins, gloves... all need to go into the machine..

It's a GREAT CU though.....

ATM Deposits are great when you can get it but the number of Deposit Taking ATMS readily available to the public (24hr accessible) are VERY low and are spread out thinly around the city. Heaven forbid you dont live in the city..

The thing I likes was that CUs have this network where you could walk into another CU and deposit $$$ and even pay your CU loans/credit cards..

That was cool. But still participation is still an issue..

For all their issues as long as you got a free ride (no fee account) BIG banks are the way to go if you need that extra service (cashiers checks, wire transfers and the like)..

Funny thing is.... I have a NFCU branch 10 minutes from my house..

But it does me no good since Im at work during banking hours..

Now if only I also had one minutes from my job that would be ideal and I would switch in a heartbeat...

Alliant CU works well enough as an online bank. A bunch of ATMs in it's surcharge-free network too (non-Alliant ATMs that do not assess a fee to Alliant account holders)...

They should give you $$$ in a branch, but this is BOA we're talking about here..

I just closed my Checking/Savings accounts with them last month due to disuse.

And I specifically asked the rep to just apply the $10 remaining in the checking account.

To my Discover credit card balance..

Of course, this being BOA, they ignored me and the rep and mailed me a check,.

A brisk 3 weeks later..

The main difference here is there are no BoAs in my state, so I had to do everything.

Online. With you having a branch you can go to and choke someone physically,.

I'd be willing to bet they'll just hand you your money...

Good luck..This IS BoA we're talking about here...
