That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I discover an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could answer your Discover Card question..

Unless my signature is on the 4506, they had better not be snooping in my tax returns. I will provide proof of my income, through bank statements, paystubs, employment verification, or a 1099, but release of my entire tax return is NOT happening for a credit card. I will go without plastic, to protect my tax returns. What I report/pay to Uncle Sam is between him and I, not any bank...

Some here think it is OK to just have all your PRIVATE information available for anybody's use.....

I don't live in fear of my creditors. If I want a credit product and I have to stand on one foot and scratch my belly to qualify I'll do it. For people who overstate income the new guidelines on income for card issuers may be problematic...

Just have it all out there for anybody to look at.
Maybe all they need for your Discover card application is name and address and SS# and DOB and all your signons and passwords.. |
|
This doesn't account for people who are accurate, but suffer adverse consequences due to bad estimates or guidelines. Certainly not an inconceivable possibility...

No doubt, but that does not mean I would worry about it. I cherish the opportunity many CUs give me to prove income when applying for credit...

...AND SOME HERE THINK IT IS NO BIG DEAL TO BEND OVER AND SPREAD THEM..

|
Humor me on this but what's the big about showing your tax return when you are willing to show everything listed above?.
Only thing your tax return shows that your statements and forms doesn't is what deductions you are taking right?.. |
|
LOL. hopefully nobody around here lied on Discover card applications...

I consider proof of income to be different than tax documented income. To me, proof of income is a paystub, and following up with an employer's HR department. 4506-T doesn't even prove I have income, it just proves that I say I have income, and am willing to pay taxes...

I guess I mis-interpreted the IRS bits....
I was imagining they were going to use aggregate IRS data / metrics to find your "fit.". (This would likely suck for me, given my zip code.).. |
