Question I have... Where can I buy the red dress in the new Discover Card "priceless" commercial? Looking forward for any comment. Second question of mine... The last three straws (*besides* the CLDs and ratejacking)...(i) without even notification, summarily cancelled the auto-OD protection that my Wamu account had provided me for the past 28 years; (ii) I purchased a $71 airline ticket, and Chase put in some kind of weird hold that made me unable to print my boarding pass in advance; (iii) put a FOUR DAY hold on my bonus checkissued by the same employer from whom I've had direct deposit for more than five years and drawn on a bank in the same state..

So...I'm done. It's time to cut the cord..

After a ton of homework, I have narrowed down my options to the following, and would love to hear feedback from y'all:.

-Bank of the West (not sure if this counts as "community banking," but my coworkers RAVE about them).

-Wescom FCU.

-Focus One CU.

-LA Federal CU.

-Glendale Area Schools CU.

-Pacific Resource CU.

-Water & Power Community CU.

What I am contemplating is switching over both my checking and Discover card business. Clean reports with perfect payment history, scores in the low 700s, but recent AAs by BofA, Discover and Chase have demolished my util., which was a bit high to start out with and now looks just terrible..

I've checked out CreditPulls and Yelp and just looking for what would tip the balance in favor of any of the above institutions..

Thanks in advance for any input...

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I discover an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could answer your Discover Card question..

Thanks, NTL. No, not rebuilding. Have really good credit other than my util. and fought really hard to get my scores where they are todayonly to have my throat cut because the big banks decided to turn the world into their own private casino and all of us lost..

I want to return to doing business with a bank/CU that values the customer relationship. I had that with Wamu for almost 30 years and am beside myself to have lost it...

I heard good things about Wamu CS before they were acquired by Chase. I must confess I only jumped on the Wamu bandwagon because of APYs on CDs the last year, year and a half before they went under, so I used them mainly as an online bank..

Alliant CU CS has been good in my experience. They have US CSRs, 24/7, competitive APYs. Their Discover credit card rewards aren't great and approval CLs, with few exceptions, tend to top out at 10k, so I haven't bothered to get their CC..

As an online bank, I've also found Schwab Checking to be convenient. Their APYs are lousy (0.75%) but free ATM use worldwide, no FETF, and convenient online interface for bill pay makes up for it. I keep a little money there in case I need to get cash out of an ATM on short notice or when I go overseas. It is a good combo with the Schwab cash back card..

Having mostly gotten used to online banking, I tend to chase rates LOL but for a good local relationship, why not come down to a couple of CU branches, sit down with a banker and ask them a few questions, see what they offer. I ended up not going with a local CU but it all really depends and YMMV. GL!..

I ended up going with Glendale Area Schools Federal Credit Union, and I could not be happier! Details in my other thread on the topic..

I just wanted to share what a wonderful experience it was to fire Chase in person. Went into the branch and met with the operations manager. Showed her my income and credit reports and then slapped down a list of the ten AA Chase has taken against me in the past seven months. Told her that even one of those ten reasons would've been enough for me not to want to do business with them anymore, but all ten made it unconscionable to continue. Handed her three cashier's checks and made her sign receipts for them, and walked out of the bank owing them not one thin dime..

Have already gotten another co-worker on board, and she went in to do her own Chase firing yesterday. I personally have cost Chase $19,000 this week plus usurious interest this week..

Thank you GASFCU!!!!!..

I'm glad this has been your experience. Some people will say "don't close accounts" but I disagree when it ends up supporting bad businesses with bad business practices. Good for you!..

Oh I didn't close the accounts. They have just been paid off and will now be sock-drawered, and my direct deposit will be leaving them as soon as it can be processed. I will keep the lines open for my own selfish utilization percentages unless they do something else stupid, like institute an annual fee...

Sorry, can't tell you anything about the specific CUs you mention..

My 2c:.

You can - but you don't have to - move your deposit accounts to the same bank/CU that has your CCs. Many here use different banks/CUs for CCs and savings accounts because of account terms/rates/rewards/etc..

Establishing a relationship with a local CU can help in gettig LOCs/auto loans especially if you are rebuilding credit. IME most competitive mortgage rates were offered by a major bank and not by any local CU. Same with APYs - local CUs didn't offer good terms..

Besides the obvious issue of membership eligibility, I would pick the CU based on account terms/rates, online access, and ATM/branch availability. If you're rebuilding, pick the CU that offers you credit (secured card or LOC) to start with..

GL!.

And don't forget national CUs: Alliant (great APYs) and PenFed (gas cash back)...
