Got a quick question: What store can I get a re-loadable Visa Discover Card gift card? Many thanks for any answer or 2. 2nd question I got is.. Hello Everyone! Needing some advice from you who have been there/done that and can help me out..

Here is my current situation/status: 22 year old, turn 23 at the end of March and I'm looking to improve my credit in hopes to either buy a car/house later in life. Looking for ways to help increase my credit score currently so I'll be in a good position to make larger purchases down the line..

What I've got/done so far:.

1. Got a Crap 1 credit card(first card, had zero credit at the time) March of this year will start my Third year with the card. Have had.

0.

Late payments, if I didn't pay in full I always paid WELL over minimum and I pay the bill as soon as it becomes available to do so online each month. Only had one CLI the entire time I've had the card and that was the "automated" one that came automatically after having the card for 6 months. Current CL is $500 on the card. *.

EDIT.

* Just wanted to note, I have tried for a CLI multiple times, both the automated service when you call and talking to a rep. A buddy of mine(member of this forum) even gave me a "magic number" or something he called it to call and I still got denied(this was about 5-6 months after the first and only CLI, haven't tried since then with the "magic number". FWIW, I tried this morning through the automated system and got denied again..

2. Got a small loan from the bank 8 months ago, personal loan, have always paid over minimum and paid early. It was a 24 month loan and it was for $2500. How long should I keep this before I pay it off? Was going to pay it off early because I was planning on buying a car this June/July but I think I'll skip that this year and wait till next because I'll be in a better situation then. Should I keep paying (with Discover card) on it or should I pay it off and move on to something else to help my score?.

3. Got a marathon gas card(just the basic card) that I pay in full every month. Only make small purchases of gas with this(no more than 100$ a month) and as stated it's paid in full as soon as the bill comes in the mail and I mail it back(I don't like their online system). Had this Two-Three months now, current CL on this card is $250..

So there is what I have in my name/credit history at this time. Never had anything against my credit in a negative way and I don't ever plan to. I do plan on starting college this Fall semester, so please keep that in mind when giving me advice. Hopefully that's enough info above for everyone to steer me in the correct path. Right now I'm part time at O'Reilly's Auto Parts and work on the family farm for cash flow. Looking to figure out what career I want to get into this year and start college in the fall as stated.

I know how important it is to have a good credit score/history in my future, that's why I'm here. Suggestions/Comments please..

Thanks,.

-Dave.

I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the answer to your question. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I find an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably can answer it..

+1 Hege..

Cap One + gas card are a good start. Don't worry too much about the limits for now, it's entirely possible to generate a very good score with smaller limits..

I'd add another revolving account, then let them age for a while..

The installment loan is an OK thing to have, it will help show long-term payment history, but so will having credit cards for the same length of time, so it really isn't necessary at this point. Installment loans have little to no effect on your credit score. I'd pay it off in the near future and save the interest $$...

That's why I'm here asking questions!!! What do you suggest?.

Thanks, I was going to ask if I should pay it off early or what everyone thought on that. Is there a certain amount of months I should let it go before I pay it off? Thanks guys, I'm open to all suggestions and help, that's why I came here to ask for advice..

Thanks for your time everyone...

Do you know what your FICO is? Have you applied for another CC?..

Shew I can't remember what my FICO was when I got that loan 8 months ago, it was either 602 or 702. I'll run a FICO report before I apply for another Discover credit card and see what it is..

So you all suggest I open another CC, correct? Any certain ones I need to be going after?.

-Edit-.

Went ahead and ran a myFICO, score is 661 but that's before I pay this cap1 card off. Going to run another report after and see how much the scores change. Going to pay the Cap1 card off BEFORE I apply for another card, thanks..

Anyone recommend a Discover card to get asap? I don't see me getting approved on anything but something like HSBC(I get those pre-approved offers from them almost weekly) but would getting such a bad card really help me out?.

Thanks..

The hsbc product is a lot better than many others..

That said, a secure card may be in order...

Thanks for the reply..

From a quick search, I found this about the Secure Credit Card. Opinions?.

"While secured cards make sure you never spend more money than you can afford while they force you to save, it's not a good idea to keep one any longer than you have to, experts say.".

Taken from this article:.

Should I take more interest in the HSBC or are there other companies(better) that I should look into? I've been reading it seems everyone suggest at least 3-4 cards. I really want to add another asap so my score can start recovery and I'll be better suited next year. I don't see why I shouldn't be easily in the 700's next year. Thanks for all your help...

Why have you not opened additional revolving accounts? installment accounts only count for FICO on the fringes...
