Got a quick question: What is better? Amex Platinum or Discover Card World Elite Card? Looking forward for any comment. Second question of mine... I see you already opened an account but savings/checking is not a deal maker for me and these credit unions. I have had nothing but good experiences with Commerce Bank up here in NJ. If I choose to move money from my checking account to a credit union I can simply do an ACH over to Penfed. Good luck on the CLI request next week... |

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer. I'll do some research and get back to you if I discover an answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably can help you..

Speak to an underwriter Monday and they should double that limit to $10K. I was told they really wont go above $10K for new members until after 6 months...
I'd be happy with $10k to start. I need to call on Monday to get my member number, I'll see if they will bump it. I just hope I don't hear the buzzword "excessive"...

You folks are so informative! Somewhat.
, but I read some place, including pull database, that Alliant can get jealous when your app sprees include a few other CUs. I'm not with Alliant (yet) but I believe the 5-10K cap for new member must be a YMMV thingy. Case in point: Some reported Penfed had a similar "policy" for new members. But when I applied fresh-out, they gave me a 25K Discover credit card off the bat (to my own shocking). Hence, the best $5 that I ever invested with any financial institution! Now I'm getting busy thinking about where to break in the card, besides hooking up with Tiffany's at the local Starbux... |
Good luck and let us know how it goes with this CU! You lead the way, I might be next!..

When I decided to add a checking account at Alliant, I applied online and got a deferred response. I'm wondering if I didn't get the account instantly because I joined two other CUs this year. But they did give me the account I think it showed the next day or maybe 2 days later. I would have been pretty mad if they did not give me the checking, since they pulled a SECOND hard for it..
ETA: I really regret not opening the checking when I originally applied a month ago it would have saved me a hard and you can always close accounts if you decide you don't want them. My advice: open all accounts that you even think you might need when you first join.. This post has been edited by. Rabbit23. : 21 June 2008 - 04:49 PM.. |

That's what I did, I took the Discover credit card and checking account they offered. Of course I declined the auto loan, not in the market for another vehicle..
I think I've heard about the jealousy factor in the past. Since there is a PenFed inquiry just before theirs maybe I shouldn't push my luck. I'll see how their CS is when I call to get my member number and go from there... |

I had established no less than 8-10 CUs in my portfolio earlier this year before I applied at Alliant. They didn't seem to be jealous with me at all, in fact it was just the opposite. At the time, the underwriter told me my FICO was 777...I joked that I should catch a redeye out to Vegas..
I read alot about them from past threads but didn't see much information on how they are with CLIs. I'm anxious to see how that works out for me around the August time frame.. Good luck to you all!. Edit- Addison Ave. CU refused me membership due to the CU Chex inquiries, they have been the only ones so far.. This post has been edited by. MaTTeR. : 21 June 2008 - 05:41 PM.. |

What kind of questions did the UW ask? After dealing with an FIA analyst last week I don't think I can deal with another interrogation...
I dealt with two different underwriters, both ladies were excellent and didn't ask me one single question about my report. I only remember one of them asking me how the weather was in my area...small chit chat stuff. One of the easiest approvals I've got to date. I ended up sending kudo letters to the supervisors for them..
So you had to talk to them before you were approved? I was offered the $5k card and accepted it. Maybe this will be easy...
I'll find out on Monday. And I blame you for this Mr. Bad Influence...
Wait a minute now, you can't blame me for Alliant. I haven't even joined this one - yet..
All I know is that every time I take a break from here I don't open any new accounts. I come back, talk to you and the next thing I know I have new accounts...
I guess you can take a break, but you can never leave. You're drawn to CB..
No, I already had a hard pull from membership and knew I'd get another if I applied online for the card so I called in to do the app on the phone. Few days later I decided I wanted the LOC as well, called back and got a different underwriter...
Several people have been approved with a BK..
Does anyone know the definitive answer?.. |
I bet you'll be offered the $10k Visa during online app..
Both Trev and I declined, took another hard to get >$25k... |
I can live without the visa as it has weak rewards. avoiding another new revolving account might be key since I also plan to apply for an additional card from nasa...
