Got a question... Tribute gold Discover Card credit card? Looking forward for any answer. Another quick question... Was just wondering, whats your experiance with UMB in general and with their CSRs apropos checking your application status. |
That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I discover an anything. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably can answer it..

I apped for the same reason.. What are your scores like?.
They pulled TU for me, so thats a 691 with 6 derogs remaining. 4 entries for 2 SLs that were PAID in full on 02/08. And. 2 entries from Midland/HSBC PAID in 04, due to drop this year. Otherwise clean w/ 12+ TLs reporting, half over 12 months old. So thin file with a few baddies.. I really hope I'm on the cusp here, at least...lol.. |
Happen to have a link for this?.
I apped, but no account has been created. I cant login obviously. I also am not seeing a link on. Any of the pages for online chat... |
Https://www.umb.com/...Chat/index.html.
Was under the contact us, then under personal General customer service... |
I don't have anything to add in re the app process, other than it took about 2 weeks for me for the inq to appear and then receive the card..
I would like to share my experience with UMB.... I was denied for Guide Dogs in Sept., "Too many open accounts" or something to that effect.... decided to try again (really wanted the hidden tradeline) in December for a different umb card (The Hall) and was APPROVED $5k!!!. Still have no idea what "The Hall" is, just a solid black card with a tiny castle on it. Thrilled to have it, though.. Point is, and YMMV, if denied - wait 90 days and try again with a different card...... |
Thanks for the link Clark.
I chatted with them this morning and they are processing the app. I apped on Friday 1-15-10 and the rep suggested I wait until Thursday. Before checking status to get an answer. Not sure if MLK added. A day's delay or not... Thanks for the tip JK.. I like the idea of a hidden TL, so I really want. A UMB. My TU is in worse condition. there are a few lates plus a collection. 10 yrs on my oldest acct with average age around 4 yrs. no new accts in close to 2 yrs now. the cards that are reporting are very low utilization- maybe around 5% or less (and I actually paid that card off this month). my fico is 660 on that report...
Great utilization there and AAoA. You definitely have more age than I do.
Report your results and I'll do the same. Maybe we can narrow down. Their preferences a bit.. (ie. forgiving of CAs w/ Age or hates thin files, etc)... |
Just inquired over chat... Declined. I can't get in with these guys.....
Mind sharing a quick summary of your CR?.
# of derogs, age of derogs, etc... |
^^ will do. I am pretty much expecting a decline, but I wonder what hte reasons will be so fari got the 15 day 'wait for your letter in the mail' message' which has decline written all over it..
It will suck if they decline us both, that will be worse case scenario because we wont learn much of anything.. If they pull my EQ, they wont see the CA, but would see higher utilization (i think 29% util there as one 5k card reports here that doesnt report to my TU)... |
Like some others around here, I'm hardheaded when it comes to INQs.
I always recon and if I cant get approved, I press to get why, so I'll know. For the next time. I dont always get an answer, but I do ask.. persistently.... |
I was denied with UMB, here are my stats:.
726 TU score. AAoA 2 yrs. Oldest acct 6 yrs. No collections, no baddies, util 20%. Income 40,000. Available tradelines $17k. They denied me for having too much credit... |
Hrm thats still seems so shady to me. did you call for a recon yet?.
I have heard that they will do that if you available credit exceeds your income - but in this case it doesnt. maybe 20% util is too high for them.... |
Appreciate the link! I just finished chatting. She told me to wait 5 days and check again. What could possibly take 5 days? They already pulled from TU.....
Yeah, that doesnt bode well for my app. I have $15K in TLs, 60K in income,.
And a few derogs.. all paid and 2+ years old, util is < 6% atm. But my thin file is going to kill it I think... bah...... |
I am also cross checking the credit pulls db for other denials / approvals with that utilization:.
Denials:. Reason: Sufficiently Obligated with BankCard Accounts. Util is @ 23% score 700. Fico score, clean report, 52%util score 710. Approvals:. 710 FICO, 2 INQs, 92% UTI, clean report with strong payment history. Not instant approval. 0% BT done over phone before card came.. BK7 9/2002, 36% Util., 0 Inq., Clean since BK score 701. Clean report - 0 inqs. - High utilization 80% - Tried for CLI on activation. Said to wait 6 months score 710. BK13 & Foreclosure 3/06; credit perfect since. Util was approx 25% when applied, 1 inq showing. score 697. Wth.... |
It looks like Util is a big killer for them. Every denial listed has a 30%+ util.
Or a serious derog (BK/Foreclosure/Repo). Still leaves me in limbo on my app, since I'm better in util than all the denials,. But my score is very close to the others and I do have some derogs. The plot thickens..... |
I didn't bother to call for recon because the same day I applied and got a Virgin America card on recon..
I'd like the hidden tradeline but didn't really want to deal with them, and it's hard to argue that they're wrong in saying I have a lot of open credit...but if anyone has a recon number I will call and see if maybe I can get more info about approvals with them.... This post has been edited by kb1gra: 19 January 2010 - 12:20 PM.. |
+1 on a recon number.. I've always had better luck reconning via.
Numbers directly to the underwriters, rather than the frontline drones... |
Considering the situation, i'd still recon if I were you because it looks like you simply got screwed. ive seen several here with higher credit to income ratios. I think you could win a recon if you want the tl...
+1 on the recon.. You've already burned an INQ.
If recon doesnt get you the card, you can press the rep a bit. And see if you can get details on why you were denied. I dont think I've had an INQ I didnt recon (excepting my autoloan). If lenders are going to pull a hard INQ and be as difficult as they. Are about removing them, I plan on milking that INQ for everything. I can get out of it. Info, CLIs, TLs, whatever, but I aint leaving without something..lol.. |
Any updates from anyone on this? I'm thinking of applying, but I was interested in how all of you have fared since you last posted. Thanks...
Declined.
The chat rep (a Mr. Alpha M) said there would be a number I could call in my denial letter. They pulled TU and I'm 691 on TU, no unpaid derogs. Most recent derog is 02/08 and that was the final payment date. Nothing by happy/happy/joy/joy on my report otherwise... |
Just checked on mine, ya ya ya I ended up applying!.
Approved for $8000, should receive my card anyday now... |
The chat rep was singularly unhelpful.
Does anyone have a recon number for them? Or should I just use the regular UMB CSR number?. I recon every INQ I take. If I cant get approved, I'll sure as hell know why..... |
Reconned..
Called the frontline CSRs and persistently asked for an underwriter. When I got the underwriter, she looked at my report and said the following:. Too many recent INQs (4 total, all in the last 60 days thanks to B*). Thin File (Oldest is 17 months, newest is 1 month old). She said I could app in 6 months and roll the dice or I could wait. 12 months and almost be assured of approval. Their main issues were the thin file and the INQs. Hopefully this info helps others.. UMB is definitely in my tickle file. For reapping 12/10. Everything I've read here has matched the. Reality of them on the phone. Nice, helpful folks. Thats rare these days.. FYI: The frontline CSRs can be ignorant. Not stupid, but not educated on how it all works. I was told by the frontline CSR that I would have to contact the bureau to see why. I was declined..lol I actually asked her, "So the credit bureau declined by application. For a UMB card?". She paused a second, and I asked again to speak to an underwriter. She patched me thru..lol.. |
Keep info sonic!.
Sorry for the unsuccessful app. I may try for a CLI at activation, who knows!.. |
Thanks and congrats on your approval..
I updated the database with my denial for the next searcher... This post has been edited by sonicanatidae: 25 January 2010 - 04:12 PM.. |
Sorry Sonic! Was hoping you'd get the card. I have been wanting to go for this card now that my TU now has 0 inquires. I only have 3 baddies on TU from 2005. Nothing recent, but your score is higher and your utilization is better (mine is 35%) so if you were denied, I€™m not going to waste the inquiry. Boo...
She said my 2 main issues were thin file and a recent cluster of INQs...
My average account age is 5 yrs and my oldest is 15 yrs, no recent inquiries at all, BUT€.one of those 3 baddies is a BK (Chap 13) that was discharged in 2009. So, I guess I will hang tight until I can somehow miraculously either improve utilization some more or get that BK off...
Then you def wont have the problem.
My derogs on TU are:. 2 Student Loans (4 total entries- 2 for OC, 2 for CA). 1 HSBC Charge-off, PAID (2 entries.. OC and CA). Most recent was 02/08 (PAID) and that was the student loans. The HSBC and accompanying Midland entry are dropping this year. Her advice was to wait 12 months to age my accounts a bit more,. To let my recent INQs age and to let my Midland/HSBC entries drop this year. And I would likely be approved, assuming continued good entries on my current. She mentioned the number of accounts I have, but said successfully managing. Them over time, made the quantity less of an issue... |
Don't waste your time applying for this card. 740+ TU fico score proveable 100k income DENIED. The only reason I bothered was because it was a tu pull. B* time and forget about it now. Only had 1 previous TU pull listed too..
This post has been edited by camarocasanova: 25 January 2010 - 05:47 PM.. |
I don't know yet I am just going to wait for the letter in the mail. NO derogs whatsoever. I am going to say it is too much open credit if I have to guess...
So because you had a bad experience other people should not apply?.
What was the reason for AA?. Did you try recon?. What credit cards do you already have?.. |
I have Chase 15k limit, US Bank 10k limit, Cit 12.5 limit Discover 10k limit, local CU 5k limit and lots of little cards/gas cards 14 years of credit history mortgages cars etc all paid off or up to date no derogs. I don't know the reason for the denial yet, like I said I am waiting for the letter in the mail perhaps I can try recon then..
I say no one should apply because it seems like more than half of people are coming back with denials with pretty good credit, so why waste your time when odds are not good?. This post has been edited by camarocasanova: 25 January 2010 - 06:28 PM.. |
Good luck with recon.
The creditpulls database suggests many people have done well with umb... |
I was also denied today. I'm floating around a 660 score though on TU - so I kinda expected it.
Im mostly curious what the denial letter says though when it gets here... |
I just received a letter from them today welcoming me to their Visa Platinum Rewards Program. It stated that I will receive my card within the next few days. No idea what my CL will be. I applied on 1/17, they pulled the same day and this letter was dated 1/21.
I guess I'm glad I did "bother" with this card. (Thanks Hegemony!).. |
UMB Secured?.
My BoA just unsecured and I was looking for another secured card. With a better lender to put the money into. Since I was declined for. The Unsecured, I'm wondering if they offer a secured. Anyone have/had it? Does UMB offer a Secured card?. This post has been edited by sonicanatidae: 25 January 2010 - 11:01 PM.. |
I was also approved for UMB (Linux Foundation) about a week ago and just got my welcome letter - no plastic yet. Took about 3-4 days, called in and was told they approved a $2500 CL. 709 true FICO, 35% util, 1 INQ in the last year, 6 years AAoA, almost 11 year old file, 10 active TL's. 3 baddies on TU, but all are 3.5+ years old. Might try for CLI on activation so I can move my revolving balance to a hidden TL...
True - showed up on my EX and EQ today, same day the card arrived. Well, it was good while it lasted!..
