First question I have is Lending Tree mortgage with bank - banks cause credit crunch -? Thanks for any comment. Another question on my mind: Tonight I stopped by my favorite 7-Eleven (needed a Double Big Gulp) where I noticed a company wide email.. |

Good question... I dunno what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I bump into an answer. You should email the people at Lending Tree as they probably could give you an answer..

BETTER BE SCRAPPED BEFORE VISA/MC CUT THEM OFF!!!.
It is one thing to compare ID...but write it down on the receipt...I DON'T THINK SO.. $50.00 IS A LOT TO BUY AT 7-ELEVEN.... That is a "TON" of BIG GULPS~~but I guess if you were EMPTY and used PREMIUM and had a couple BIG GULPS, a couple HOT DOGS, and a bag of chips...I GUESS YOU COULD MAKE IT.... I USE "PAY-AT-THE-PUMP" AND THEY WOULDN'T GET MY ID, SINCE I NEVER GO INSIDE!!!. If I was going to buy $55.00, I would put $45.00 on one card and $10.00 on a second card~~PROBLEM SOLVED!!!.. |
|
What is this designed to avert?.
Do the 7-11's in your neighborhood sell a lot of solitaire diamonds?? Mine don't.. The most expensive thing in the tore is like a $12 roll of film!. Shoplifting probably takes 50 times what CC fraud does from that chain! LOL.. |
|
For cryin' out loud.. why don't they just fingerprint us for each transaction? This is getting ridicules.... we are gonna have absolutely no freakin' privacy..
The other day at the vet's office, I had to give my SS# if I wanted to give them a check. (yes, George, I heard you telling me that I wasn't applying for credit! <g>).. And I'll rant about this again - 99.99% (my estimation) of people running registers are not qualified to be certain of handwriting comparisions. There are of course obvious deviations that would tip you off, but in no way, shape or form, is my handwriting (or most people's) consistant every single time. I don't think comparing signatures is a deterrant whatsoever. Didn't anyone ever practice their parent's signature come report card time as a kid?? <g>. Ozzy... |

WAL*MART. REFUSES,. Or is supposed to. REFUSE. A SS# because it does NO GOOD to collect on a BAD check!!! STATE ISSUED ID OR DRIVERS LICENSE MUST BE USED!!!. MY VET "PREFERS" CREDIT CARDS...JUST LIKE I DO!!!. If I had my choice~~I WOULD MAKE ONE MY REGISTERS "CREDIT CARDS ONLY" THEN I WOULD HAVE LOTS OF FUN CHECKING!!!.. |
|
Oh, heck, they got that too... driver's license, ss#, I thought they were gonna ask me for some blood too @@....
Ozzy... |
|
Now they will fill out a credit card application for you...(what didn't they get???)..
|
|
Ya know, they didn't ask my shoe size! Maybe I oughta call them tomorrow and see if they forgot to ask that!?? <g> Don't want the receptionist getting in trouble for having incomplete information on their clients....<G>..

What you do is fill your tank, take a couple of bites out of the 'dogs, take a couple of big gulps from the drink and hand your card over. When the clerk demands ID tell em you only have $10 cash. Let em fry some brain cells over that decision..
0.. |

George, depending on the price of gas at the time, it could easily take $50 to fill up my truck. And another $10 to buy a couple of packs of cigarettes (yes all I know smoking is bad, but hey this is what bad credot has done to me. LOL)..

Do the 7-11's in your neighborhood sell a lot of solitaire diamonds?? Mine don't.. Not that I am defending 7-11 but having worked in retail management for 11 years,I have seen it all, including having a gun put to my head 5 different times. Scam artitists can sign your name better than you can believe it or not. Also, wanna see $50 add up real quick at 7-11? Buy a few cartons of cigarettes. It's a sad shame but alot of times the employees are in on the fraud as well. I do not think it is a good idea to write the DL #'s down, but I guess that is an extra measure to keep the employees honest and prove they really are looking at pictures and matching them to the person shopping. The funny thing is..MC & Visa are transferrable, meaning you can use someone else's card with their permission, unlike Am Ex and Discover... |
|
I brought this issue up before and don't remember any comments on it, but the Discover to go card - you're not supposed to have to cart around your wallet/purse.. just show the card. Wonder if they will not accept Discover cards becuase of this?.
Also, if part of the problem is with employees, then maybe they ought to pay the people working in convenience stores a little better so that they could support themselves and not have to resort to illegal activity. If the fraud issue is such a big problem, maybe it would actually be cheaper to pay employees more than to have stuff stolen, etc???. Ozzy... |
|
I believe that they have the foresight enough to practice someone's name before signing it - therefore, again, to someone not educated about handwriting analysis, what would this prove? The signatures would come from 2 different people but still look alike to the average person..
Ozzy... |

For about 72 hours WAL*MART had decided to MAKE the CUSTOMERS RUN THEIR OWN CARDS...(the cashier couldn't use their $100 +/- keyboard reader)...THE CASHIERS HAD A HISSY FIT...THE CUSTOMERS HAD HISSY FIT ....
I TOLD EVERYBODY TO CALL 1-800-WALMART AND I GOT ON THE PHONE TO CORPORATE...the phone must have been RINGING OFF THE HOOK!!!. PFB even got a TON of complaints!!!. PROBLEM SOLVED..... |

Why don't we have national id cards that store ALL of our credit info, identifier info, etc. on them.. believe it or not, we will see this type of thing in the near future..in some places, it already exist...
|
|
Yes and it's horrible. In England, they recently microchipped the first baby (well there's a fancier term for it than that, but that's the general idea).. so all the kid's medical info, etc. is a scan away.... the parent's were both nurses who loved the idea. I'm appalled by it..
Privacy is going to be a thing of the past. I think the religous folks tote this loss of privacy as something along the lines of the 'mark of the beast'.. Ozzy... |
|
Yea, I spoke about this in some of my earlier threads..
But first the ID cards, then the microchips.. although they are "experimenting" with the chips on prisoners and pets in the US... |
|
Getting slightly OT here, but I was gonna get my cats microchipped (I figure they don't have privacy issues)... however the local SPCA said they don't bother running the wand over cats because they get so many in! They'll do it for dogs but not cats..
I didn't know they were experimenting with prisoners though... are the prisoners okay with this?? I mean, did they volunteer or was it mandatory???. Ozzy... |

Ozzy.. LOL That would seem like an easy solution, however more people than not steal to get something for nothing, not because they "need" it to survive. The ideal situation would be to not take a job that you feel won't be paying you your worth in the first place. Not that you needed me to tell you that. :).. |

What good does it do for the RETAIL STORE to have your DL/ID information?.
For those of you in retail store operations, if your store had a fraudulent credit card transaction done, does your STORE pay for it, or does the CC company?. My View of the Future of ID:. The future will be fingerprinting devices at each CC terminal. It'll be a separate scanner to go along with each transaction you make with your card. I bet there'll be home units for purchases made over the internet as well. Instead of having your credit card be made "smarter" with a smart chip, we'll give it a more "human" touch - your thumbprint for verification of each transaction... |
|

That 20 seconds will put them WAY BEHIND WON'T IT!!!.. |
|
Yeah I guess you're right.. I just prefer to be disillusioned and think that everyone has a good, honest heart, and that people who commit an illegal act must have an excellent reason for doing so, other than boring 'ol greed - like feeding their children or something like that..
Ozzy, in the Land of the Disillusioned.. |

Where my husband works, they got a new time clock. Instead of sticking a card in, you've got to lay your hand on the clock and it scans your hand. The place only has like 30 employees and they went to something this high tech 'cuz 2 or 3 of guys would have someone else punch their timecard..
I don't even care for that - wonder if they harvest fingerprints using that thing??. As far as using thumbprints, this reminds me of the show "Profiler'. Before they caught Jack, he was in a prison and the prison required fingerprints to move from block to block. Well, being the deranged guy he was, he killed a prison guard, and if I remember correctly, skinned him so as to get his fingerprints to be able to wander around the jail.. Ozzy... |

I have a friend who works for the fraud dept at Visa and I asked him a while ago about their brand: "Visa be everywhere you want to be" and all their ads show that you can buy something with only your visa, no ID or anything. However, when I go into a store, they ask for your id (which I do not mind at all) and possibly refuse to sell to you if you do not have proper ID. He said that when the merchants sign up for Visa, they must sign a document that says that they cannot ask for ID if th card is signed. the signature on the card is what serves as the ID, comparing it to the signed receipt. The merchant can ultimately be fined for asking for ID ..
Just some food for thought...... |
