My 1st question is: Land contract trying to get a Lending Tree mortgage? Hoping for any answer or 2. 2nd question I got is.. I need to know where I can find out for sure whether a student tuition bill is covered by the SOL. It's 6+ yrs old and the SOL in my state is 6 yrs. I really don't want it to show up on my reports, but I don't have the $$ to pay it all right now. I eventually need to pay it off, to get my transcripts from the school. |

I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I bump into an decent answer. You should email the people at Lending Tree as they probably could give you an answer..

Thanks for the bump ;) I'm researching other sites to see if I can find out anything about tuition. I'm going on the assumption that it's just like any other debt, and the SOL is past...

To the best of my knowledge, all States exempt Governmental debts, including student loans from any restrictions on filing suit for recovery..
I believe, that like tax liens, they are on your credit reports and remain legally collectible without any time limit.. Here is a link, from my website to a site where you may get the correct information.. Http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/.. |

Tracy,.
It was not a deferred tuition bill? It was one that was due at the start of the year in full? If it is then it wasn't a gov backed Lending Tree loan and I think it falls under the regualr UCC SOL provisions for contracts.. It would also fall under the 7 year rule for reporting on your credit report.. Don't believe a thing the CA tells you, you know that they really have your best interests at heart (NOT). JohnM.. |

I don't believe a thing they say. It's been a little over 6 yrs on this, so they could still put it on my reports. I want to stall them long enough to get a mortgage. If I can stall them about 5 more months, I can dispute as obsolete if it gets added to my reports. I didn't know about this until recently..
Why Chat, this isn't affiliated w/ student loans at all. I signed up for classes in 1996, and never attended. I was a single mom, and just couldn't afford to pay for classes on top of everything else. And, like a moron, I just hid my head in the sand instead of officially withdrawing. I was hiding my head a lot back then. It was the same time all the CA's were calling me about debt my ex-husband racked up during our divorce. Well, one stupid professor gave me an incomplete. Duh, I never even stepped foot in the school that year. So, it's just for classes, no loan.. I believe it would be treated just like any other debt, regardless of what the CA says. What do you think?? I'd hate to use the SOL excuse, if it doesn't apply.. Funny thing is, I want to pay this next summer, so I can officially get my transcripts from that school. I just can't come up the $$ right yet. We're paying off hubbys collections first, because his are newer.. Thanks for the replys you guys!!.. |

If it wasn't a student loan, (which it seems not to be) it is just a regular bill account..
If you signed up for classes, and DID NOT apply for any student Lending Tree loan to pay for it, then you are correct, it is just a "written contract" SOL.. However,IF your application for classes incuded an application for tuition assistance through the Fed. student Lending Tree loan program, you may have a problem. Have you checked at the site I posted? There is a phone # you can call to see if it IS a student Lending Tree loan or not... |

No, I never applied because I was only taking 2 classes, and you can't (or couldn't back then) get aid for part time. I'll check that sight though, but I'm 99.9% sure I didn't. Thank you! (wouldn't the school or the CA say something about student loans) The CA specifically told me that the reason it's not on my reports is because it's tuition, and if it were loans, it would've been on there years ago. I'm sure it would've been on there before, but I don't think just because it's tuition that it's exempt from my reports...
