First question I have is Is there VISA or Discover Card available in Saudi Arabia? Looking forward for any answer or 2. Another question I got... The person on the phone said I owed $88 or something from an ATT debt from 2001. I didn't have ATT service in 2001. WTF? Not to mention this debt is out of SOL and beyond the 7 year reporting timeline. |

Yup, however you might want to make sure and wait for another person to confirm this as I am unsure of myself. Better yet, why don't you e-mail the Discover Card guys because they can give you help better...

It is always better to have something in writing.
I had a CA call me and tell me I owed a verizon for a home phone from 2001 (this was summer of 2009). I got the account info from the rep, made sure he told me several times wjat that the date of default was, so I could be sure it was OOS. Then I sent the FOAD.. Sorry to have confused you. I just want to make sure that you make sure the debt is OOS (I doubt they sue on an 88 dollat debt). I would say just what you said in this thread, plus the FOAD verbiage.. Im sick and running a high fever, but I know I made sense somewhere...... This post has been edited by Bobbydebt: 01 February 2010 - 08:36 PM.. |

Lol thanks Bobby..
Even though you spoke to the CA on the phone re: your Verizon collection, I'd rather stay off the phone with these folks. So you think I should send them a letter asking for the acct information for this debt? Acct #, debt amt, DOFD, Date they Purchased it, what else?. For some reason I feel like it may be smarter for me to call the OC, get the acct info, have them send it to me in writing and then FOAD the CA.. Working with the CA means I'll need to provide them with more info than they may already have about me, like my address or DOB. I'd rather not give them any info whatsoever.. Do you think working with the OC and getting the acct info in writing from them is a reasonable strategy in preparation for a FOAD?. Any advice is welcome, thanks!.. |

Sorry... Lame attempt at humor. Older tech people would have gotten it..
But seriously, making sure you had not done business with an AT&T business (in all their iterations) is a valid thing to do... |

Its called an "unknown debt letter." Just ask for the account number (OC and CA) and what year the debt was incurred............ Then you have it in print.
You want a CA to have you current/correct address. What if they sent you dunning notice to a wrong address?. The OC does not care about this debt. A 9 year old $88 utility???????????????? No way the OC gives a crap.. Legit debt, or not, I dont pay JDB. They can go pound sand....... |

Before I head down the path of contacting this CA and giving them more info than they already have, does anyone else have advice on what I should do?.
Thanks!.. |

So I called ATT this morning and spent 45 mins across 3 customer service reps having them search their systems for my name and for any outstanding debt. They couldn't find anything, I'm not in their systems at all. Makes total sense to me, I've never had an ATT account..
Armed with this information, I just called RJM to get more info from them - acct number, OC ATT entity, etc. I had an interesting conversation with them... I gave him my name and said I received a call earlier in the week about an ATT bill and I would like some more information about the debt. He searched his system and couldn't find anything. lol He said that RJM doesn't service ATT accounts and that I must have the wrong company! I said, well RJM is a collection agency, right? longggggg pause. "We're an acquisitions company" lol I said "yeah, you acquire debt and try to collect it, right?" He just murmured something and then asked how I got their phone number. Sigh.. Sthe strangest thing about the conversation was that he said RJM "doesn't make outbound phone calls" so I must have the wrong company. He kept saying this in the context of "how did you find this number??". Is RJM not licensed to make outbound calls or something and he was CYA?. So, to sum up.... > I haven't received a dunning letter. > There is no CA on my CR for this alleged debt. > ATT has no record of me having an account or owing a balance. > RJM has no record of me owing anything. Do I put this issue in the sock drawer or should I do something else? I have not sent a FOAD. Btw this is allegedly for a 2001 balance of $88, or at least that's what the person who called me last week said... |
