Question I have... Is Discover Card and american express accepted everwhere? Hoping for any answer. Another question I got... Ok this is a little complicated..

I registered a company I owned for example ,ABC several years ago..

But publicly, I use a slightly different name BCD..

So whats the big deal? Iam applying for a job. The company I applied at wants to see my.

Taxes..

I gave my 1120s to the company for proof of income but the person said they need.

To see something that proves I worked for BCD, that ABC is different..

Anyone have any ideas on this how I can show or what to tell this HR person that these two companies are.

The same ( I am thinking she wants to see something that has been STATE filed). What I basically did was.

Dropped a word off the name..

Please do not tell me that I should have used ABC instead BCD, I am aware of the implications that might be made concerning all these things. I need to know what a good solid connection might be..

If I go and register the BCD company at the state tax commission on Monday morning does anyone know how long it would take to have it go into affect? Could I leave there with a receipt that it's been done and paid for and show that to HR? Or will it take longer than a day. HR gave me till Monday to have it done. Or my file will be closed for the job that I am THIS close to getting..

Lets say James Dean inc. was the original name and I dropped James and made it Dean inc. inc.

Yes sir! but... you might want to make sure and wait for another person to confirm this as I am not quite sure. Better yet, why don't you contact the Discover Card guys because they can answer you better...

You should be able to file a D/B/A or Trade Name certificate with your local town/city. Usually it's a small fee like $10..

It should have a place to indicate your name, title, and both business names. (i.e. John Doe, President of ABC Corp. certifies they are conducting business under the name of BCD at 123 XYZ Street Anytown, US)..

Most places don't require them, and they don't mean terribly too much. But it's usually something a bank might request when opening a checking account and wanting to transact in the store's name, not your investment company..

The problem is it's definitely not going to be backdated, so I don't know if the hiring company will accept it. It's not as if the town/city does any verification. The clerk just signs/stamps the form if you pay the fee...

If I went down to the tax office Monday could they issue a certified document of sorts that shows my name and my company , could it all be done while I am there? I dont remember the time it took last time, I remember mailing it too so if I am there in person it might be different? Anyone have any advice on how long it might take OR if they could do it while I am there? Or if they could do a trade name change while I am there as well as suggested in post above ( for $10)..

Also what if I gave them a bank statement similiar to what you said that showed the tax number from one company being used for the other?.

I need to have enough proof alternatives just encase one doesn't work I can show the other..

Go to the county recorder's office and file a fictitious business name statement. They should be able to do that for you over the counter and give you file-stamped evidence back. You'll have to publish a notice in the legal announcements in your local paper, but the recorder will give you all that info when you file...

Wow! Never heard of that one. Its something every county or state should do?.

I mean it's normal practice right?.

IT can all be done in one day right. I have to have this document authorized Monday and turned in say Monday afternoon..

Thanks for the help...

Joulian, sorry for not responding sooner. Yes, you should be able to get it filed over the counter at the county clerk or recorder's office. I hope you were able to get this done by your deadline...
