Got a quick question: If Lending Tree mortgage companies go through lenders, how can the mort.company approve loans? read Thanks in advance for any response. Another question I got... I am asking this here because so many people are talking about inquiries with Satellite, so I am thinking lots of users here have satellite. I tried finding a discussin board on the topic with no luck..

I had direct tv installed Saturday, after having cable for over 20 years. I also had a 51" widescreen HD tv delivered Saturday. I still have the cable connected on a different tv and comparing the two sets, I have to say the cable has a much better picture. I thought and was told satellite has a MUCH clearer picture. Some channels are better then others. For instance, watching the football games Sunday.

The second game was on FOX (I think) and it was horrible. The problem I am having is: When they show an up close shot of the players is looks good, actually great. As soon as they pan (zoom) out to show the whole field everything gets fuzzy or blury. At first I thought it may be the new TV, due to the wide screen. I put it at normal and not any better.

So, I went upstairs where we had the second receiver installed on a 27", and that also was fuzzy, not as much, but it is a smaller screen. Any Satellite gurus out there have any ideas. I am very disappointed. I spent so much money on this TV and now I have a worse picture, and worse yet when we are viewing a sport shows where they pan out to see the whole play. Thanks for any help, and I do hope I explained this right.

PS. I did check the Satillite on the TV status and it says it's OK, it is at a 96?..

I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the answer. I'll do some research and get back to you if I got an answer. You should email the people at Lending Tree as they probably know..

HDTV is so expensive is it really worth it? It seems like you would have to watch T.V. day and night to justify spending so much money..

Thanks for the reply. I do understand I will not get "true" HD without the decoder, except for watching DVD's on my progressive scan DVD player. However I thought I would at least get a better picture then I had with my 27" using regular cable. I am wrong? I hope not!..

Hi sandie - I wasn't sure of your knowledge of the HD technology..

I think you will get a picture BETTER than ATT Digital Cable - once the satellite is adjusted - have them stayu until it beams you a great picture..

Satellite is digital - meaning, theoretically, that once it's pointed, it's "ON".....

Not true ... yours needs to be finetuned - without the box.....

Did you get Sony?.

Aarrf - I have a 32" Sony XBR HD with the new Samsung TS HD box - fantastic but I need a larger picture??!!.

Aarrf - dogman..

That depends entirely on what you're used to. The cost of HDTV sets will undoubtedly come down and the FCC is starting to require that television set manufacturers start having the HDTV receiver built into the HDTV set. There are some subtle differences between a HDTV set and the older sets, but when you watch DVD's there is no substitute. HDTV programming is due to increase in the following 3 to 4 years and the FCC is requiring all broadcast stations to broadcast the majority of their programming soon in HDTV so that's when the true value of the set will become known. When the NFL, NCAA football and NCAA basketball begin broadcasting on FOX, ABC and CBS in HDTV is when my set will have been well worth the investment. If you have ever watched a football game in HDTV you'll never want to watch a football game any other way..

This is good to know. I am having the installer back out Saturday. (while there is a game, so he can see the lousy picture) He will not leave until it is 'finetuned'. Ahhhhhh, I have hope again. I was really getting worried I made a bad choice with the satillite and TV..

Did you get Sony?.

Yes, it is a Sony. 51". I like it, may take sometime getting use to the widescreen. My biggest problem is trying to firgure out how to put the settings. e.g. widescreen, fullscreen, defult screen.....LOL.

Between the new TV, a new recorderable DVD player, a new sound system, and the satillite. I am dizzy...

MENU.

DISH POINTING.

SIGNAL METER.

TRANSPONDER UP~DOWN (AT THE TOP) RCA (YMMV).

I'M ON TRANSPONDER 2.

89-91.

MY INSTALLER SAID YOU MIGHT NEED TO CHANGE TRANSPONDER NUMBERS FROM TIME TO TIME.

SATELLITE DIRECT MAGAZINE ALSO MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT IT, I THINK....

DEPENDING ON CITY...EVEN NUMBERS MAY WORK BETTER....

JUST WRITE DOWN THE NUMBER YOU ARE ON AND IF YOU GET NOTHING DIFFERENT...JUST PUT IT BACK ON THE SAME NUMBER..

HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE "BIRD" (SATELLITE)..
