My first question is I cant find the card varification number on my Discover Card.? Thanks for any comment. 2nd question I got is.. So here is the background on my situation with Chase.

1) Back in 2008 I was just starting to learn about fixing my credit. In August 2008 I disputed 3 Chase TLs online with TU. For all 3 I stated "Investigate /img/avatar4.jpgship: I have no knowledge of this account"...which was true because I didn't remember what these accounts were about nor did I have any records of them. TU responded by updating all 3 with "New Information"..

2) I also received two letters from Chase "verifying" the account. One had a copy of the original signed application for the account. The other letter stated ".

In researching this claim, we have found documentation of phone conversations you have had with Chase employees regarding this account.

". They also asked me to sign an "Acceptance of Liability", which (needless to say) I did not do..

I think the reason that they couldn't find the original signed application for this account was that it may have originally been a Bank One Discover card that later became a Chase card..

3) I am starting to get back into shoring up my credit lately, so the other day I called Chase's "Executive Offices" and I spoke with a young lady about the account in question. (I realize this is not the standard approach, but I figured it was worth a shot since I can be fairly persuasive on the phone.) I told her that I was learning about my credit rights under the law, but that I didn't really want to get into legalities and writing letters, etc. I added that, since A> I wasn't really sure what this account was about and B> several of the data fields on my CR certainly contain incorrect information, would she be so kind as to delete it?.

It turns out that this nice young Chase rep is just sort of a first-line rep, and that she basically takes the information and has to run it by a higher-up. She said she would call me back within 48 hours. She did call me back 2 days later, to tell me that they would not be able to delete the account, but that they were still in the process of working on correcting the incorrect information..

So.....

Since the "nice guy" approach didn't seem to be too effective, I am thinking as a next step that I will draft a letter and then 1) call her and ask if I can fax it to her and also 2) send it to her by CMRRR and possibly 3) ask if I can speak directly with the higher-up..

So now I think the question is, what do I put in the letter???.

My first question to CBers is: do I have a legal right under 623 (or some other statute) to push for more documentation of the alleged "phone conversations"?.

OR...should I pursue the other aspects that are reporting incorrectly? For example, it says that I was 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 & 180 days past due on the account. I know for a fact that that is categorically incorrect because I have never let any TL go past 30 days, or possibly 60 at the absolute most..

Thanks for any help you all can provide!..

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to your question. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could assist you..

Thanks for the advice!.

So, to paraphrase, you think I should keep it simple and save the other incorrect reporting issues for the next round of letters if necessary?..

The OC says they have your signed application for the account. Ask them to mail you a copy of it to see if it has your signature and data on it. Just because you claim to not remember the account and have no records (because you simply discarded them) is not a valid reason to have it deleted without a settlement...

It's kind of hard to argue both that you have no recollection of the tradelines while at the same time saying that they are reporting the tradelines inaccurately..

I personally would go down the "I have no idea what you are talking about" road until they prove to me that the accounts are mine. At that point, once ownership is established, then I would consider the path of innacurate reporting..

Jtoast - thanks...that makes sense..

Fire3000 - my post was kind of long. Just to clarify, it is a different Chase account for which they have the signed application (and they did send me a photocopy of it). For the supposed Bank One/Chase account they only have supposed "documentation of phone conversations"..

On a separate note, I find it amazing that, in this economic climate, Chase is willing to spend their employees' time on verifying accounts that they stand to recoup ZERO dollars on. Am I missing something or are they just evil/mean-spirited? (Their offices are in Chicago, after all!)..

I haven't sent them my letter yet, although I did get a call from the Chase rep last week...basically a bunch of bs that they are reporting correctly, blah, blah, blah..

I told her that didn't make any sense to me and asked if I could both fax and mail her a letter. She seemed pretty disappointed that I wasn't just going to walk away from this, but she did give me her first and last name as well as her fax number and address..

I haven't sent the letter yet, but I am having second thoughts about just asking for more verification that it is mine..

I was trying to think from Chase's standpoint, and it seems to me that the more time they think they will have to spend on this, the better the chance that they will just delete the TL instead....

So why not just write a letter throwing in everything but the kitchen sink at them? I could include MOV, 623 issues, the fact that they smell bad.

, etc..

Any thoughts on taking this approach rather than a multi-letter, step-by-step approach?..
