First of all Highest cash back visa or Discover Card? Thanks in advance for any comment. 2nd question I got is.. Well, I got a little surprise from Discover today in the mail. They have given me a CLD. I went from a $3,000 limit to a $2,400 limit. It's not a big deal really because it is a small CLD. |

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I find an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably can answer it..

Guess I just wanted to be "the decider" rather than be "humbled" into doing it. I was much more upset when BOA closed my faux AMEX. I really did not care for their CLI and CL policies. Also, they are the only card I've had that has been returned to me at a restaurant with the "um, sorry sir, we don't take discover"...in fact, I think that's why I decided to get rid of them..
I think I will try to get something before it reports. That is a good strategy. Thanks.. And GEORGE , I sincerely am glad that you are unaffected. I think you've suffered enough with AMEX. I feel you, buddy... |

I never liked discover anyways, I hope you feel the same way too.. were you close to the CL they decreased it to?..

Discover is actually my highest limit. They've increased me from 2500 to 4500 in a little over a year. I do always PIF though (except when I had 0%) so I'm not sure if that makes a difference to them...

I just checked my account online and I have been CLD'd from 2K to 700, 38 bucks over my balance. 9 month old account..
I would say it's really close to his cl. Sorry this happened to you... |

Looking back, I do feel discover is overrated (this is not the bitterness talking)as is AMEX, and the times that I talked to CS they were courteous, but a bit preachy, maybe even condescending. They aren't the only ones like this, though, but since I broke up with them, I guess I will concentrate on the negative...

I find this kind of shocking..
I've had Discover for almost two years - and have had no problems.. They jacked my APR when I was two days late on a payment (I confused it with another card's due date)... I called and explained, and the CSR restored me to the lower APR.. They gave me a CLI from 3k to 3.6k, without me asking... and CS has ...mostly... been nice.. My only complaints are: 1) they keep offering the same payment protection crap everytime I call them... and 2) they called me at 8am one morning and asked WHAT SOUNDED LIKE if they could send me information on the payment protection... half asleep, I muttered "sure" - but they took that sure as me confirming I wanted to sign up... I had to call and cancel (it's like 89 cents per $100, per month... which roughly equates to an ADDITIONAL 10.68% APR on top of your current APR... if I did the math right.... NO THANKS!).. |
|
It took me by surprise a little bit because I have never heard of Discover giving out CLD's or balance chasing. I'm fine with it, I am going to pay it off and let it sit...

Maybe give them a call and ask why you got the AA?.
Worst case scenario, they don't tell you why, and they do nothing about it.. Slightly better worst case scenario, they tell you why - and do nothing about it... but you can educate others on what triggered it.... Best case scenario, they agree to restore your CL.. Slightly worse best case scenario, they agree to meet you half way, and give you a CLI that's still lower than your previous CL... |

I forgot to mention that they did read the so called "letter" partially while I was on the phone with CS. They said that I had recently opened a new bankcard account(I did open a new amazon visa in DEC, 400CL woohoo, bleh), and that my credit history was a bit short (9 years ?). I think all the advice on this thread on how to deal with this situation is valid, however, I don't feel that at this point in time I need to compromise with discover. Other than a few toy cards, most of my other cards are all above 3000, Plus I have NFCU which is way cool (huge lines so far). This was a messed up thing to do to a good customer, albeit a relatively new one, with perfect credit history. The first girl that saw my account was shocked that I got CLD'd, but kept reading the letter with a tone of disbelief (not sure why).
At this point I was livid, so I just cut him off and told him to close my account immediately. It's one thing when you know you have less than perfect credit and something like this happens, and you need every Trade line, no matter how small, because you want a good rate on a mortgage. It's quite another when they take actions like this, which are largely symbolic, just to show the share holders they are being conservative, and protecting the integrity of their portfolio. I would encourage those that are hit with this type of adverse action to weigh your options carefully. If you do need the TL for your mix and for your utilization, I would probably try to work things out. Sorry for the tone, but I am still bitter... |

The letter I got said that the descision is final. One of the reasons is that they think my credit history is too short (about 4 or 5 years) and they didn't like my balance on my Discover card...

Discover may be better (Customer service) than many others nowdays. However, they are still the stepchild as far as credit cards. I ran into many places when I had one where it would not be accepted. Same with Amex. However, Amex was much better the CL's.
Like I said, they are HORRIBLE with their lines and increases. Not even close to being in proportion with others (in my experience). They had me at $3100 and could not give an increase, even with a $79K card on my report (Amex Starwood). Perhaps I should have just sockdrawered it, but do not feel like babysitting so I cancelled it. In the last few years I have stuck with Visa, and have not run into a business yet that told me "Sorry we do not accept Visa"... |

Sorry to hear about your CLD. Besides Citi and Target they are the only ones who have not cut my CL yet...
