My 1st question is: HELP! I lost my debit Discover Card. What shuld I do? Many thanks for any answer. My other question... I came to the US from a foreign country in Feb 2006..

I left behind a Discover card in the old country. I paid on it for a couple months after moving but couldn't afford to carry on as I wasn't working at the time so I let it go..

Now, I have a collection account on my US Experian credit report relating to this old card. It is being reported by a company called Cedar Financial from California. I don't know who they are. The original creditor is listed as some Canadian outfit I have never heard of either. The original card company is not mentioned on my report. I have had no contact from anyone about this account..

It says the account was opened in April 2009, but the original card was opened at least 4 years prior to this date. I also don't recognize the dollar amount they are reporting..

Can they do this? Can someone please advise me what to do next? I don't think this should be on my US credit report...

Should I dispute it with the CRA? It's obviously been re-aged and the dollar amount has been pulled from the sky....

Sorry I disagree. If I remember reading correctly, the CRa's each have their own reporting for Canada, England etc..

Is the Ca in the US or overseas? But yes, dispute it with the credit reporting agencies. Did you ever hear from the Ca before it was placed on your credit report?.

Yes, the CA is in the US. This account is obviously on my UK credit report. But the OC is not on my US report. I have had no contact from anyone about this...

If the debt was bought by a US CA then I would think they would be allowed to report on US Bureaus...

Yes, that part sounds true based on my prior knowledge. A DV should be sent out ASAP..

(I do remember an Italian company suing 2 American residents in America for debts they incurred in Italy - even though the pair were Italian citizens the Italian company thought they had a better chance here in the US courts. The amount was around $70000.)..

I disputed this with the CRA, it came back as verified and is scheduled to remain on file until 2012..

I still don't know who these people are..

What's my next step? I don't believe this should be on my report in this country..

Should I DV the CA in California? The original creditor is listed as a collection agency from Canada I have never heard of. I know I have never done business with them. There is no mention of an actual original creditor from the UK..

I have had no communication from anybody about this..

What can my next step be? I am in Texas if that makes a difference...

We're going through the same thing with the same company, with a small twist. CO with OC was 6 years ago, and we paid the UK CA 5 years ago. Now it's showing with Cedar and is an insane amount of money. They called DH at work a few weeks ago (how we found out about it) and we've DV'd them. Awaiting response - They signed for the CMRRR DV on the 15th. We'll see what they come up with, I'm actually kind of curious at this point! I'm actually wondering how big an operation their california location is, as the guy who called DH is also the same one who signed for the DV. Sounds like a 1 or 2 person operation!..

Which suggests that no reaging took place and the 2009 date is simply when the furnisher got the account in their office (in which case, the TL *SHOULD* be showing when the account was opened IN THEIR OFFICE). Reaging is based upon a movement of the Date of Delinquency, not an opening date....

Have you read the Texas mother thread? If not, that should be the VERY NEXT thing you do before you do ANYTHING ELSE on this matter.....

They can do this. Debt is debt, no matter where it originated. I would start by DVing them to see if they have any proof...
