Quick question... Everyone who has a Discover Card debit or credit card watch your Statements!!!!!!!? Hoping for any answer. 2nd question I got is.. Hello Everyone,.

I am planning to pay off $1600 on one of my Chase Cards (Credit Limit of $2000) on Friday. I am planning to use the new free up credit in order to secure my vacation that I plan to take in June..

However, I fear that with the current trend of Chase and major card companies "chasing the balance" that my Credit Limit will be reduced dramatically. I thought of calling them before making the transfer to prevent it but I am unsure. Any ideas to preserve the CL and prevent them chasing the balance...

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to your question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I got an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably know..

If your vacation relies on the funds, then I would consider another option..

Pay 50% or something along those lines..

Chase would love to balance chase you out of your vacation plans..

I think it makes lighting their cigars with tax payor 100 dollar bills.

Somehow more satisfying..

I could very well be wrong, but honestly, do you trust Chase.

As far as you can throw them? Or any creditor for that matter.

These days?..

I agree..

If you are not taking the vacation until June, it's risky to expect the CL to remain intact until then especially after the lump payment..

How about breaking down your payment in two or three payments and using the available balance to pre-pay some of your travel expenses...like the airfare, hotel, etc.?.

Of course you'll have to start making the payments and pay the interest sooner than would have been the case before...

I assumed this was.

BOOKING THE WHOLE VACATION PACKAGE ON-LINE.

(flight/hotel/car rental).

It is either approved or denied in less than 30 seconds..

I can book the entire trip with my debit card from my local bank - the issue that I am fearing is that the major hotels will require a credit card, to hold additional fees and so forth and I want to have the CL in place for any large transactions..

I had difficulty at a hotel in AC with my debit card and had to deal with the $1300 error they made when they double charge me; so that is why I really want a strong CL before I go..

There aren't a lot of strong options with Chase here. If you've carried the high balance for several months with limited payoff until now, a large payment could indeed prompt them to "chase". (This is particularly true if your credit score is <700)..

Calling them to inquire whether they might do so in advance has a fair risk of prompting them to flag the account and increase the likelihood they might CLD once they receive payment..

It sounds as if your biggest problem is that your eggs are in one basket. Rather than try to deal with the uncertainties with Chase, this might be a good time for you to seek out another high quality account. Credit unions, who are less inclined to engage in such behavior, are strong candidates and a few you might wish to explore are suggested in recent threads..

In any case, here's to hoping that when you make your Chase payment your CL stays intact...

If you have the cash to put the trip on debit why don't you just open a secured credit card?..

One factor will be your overall credit record. If you.

Have lots of unused cards, they see one thing. If.

You have lots of full cards, they see another thing..

I had some success with Chase by paying (with Discover card) off a.

Large chunk (about $500) each month. I got one.

Round of credit line decrease, but they did not repeat,.

In that one place and time. I have my remaining credit.

Limits, untouched, though the rate is so high that I do.

Not use that card..

They can freeze any charge for review so there's no.

Sure way to charge faster than their computers can see..

What would worry me the most is to arrive at a hotel,.

Then see Chase cancel the card on the spot. Carry cash.

Or several forms of backup..

ER..

Why don't you apply for a Discover card through your local bank. Local banks and CU's are more stable than the big banks...

You could try to have your flight or hotel pre-charged to the card. Make your reservations but tell the hotel or airline to pre-charge the cost for june. The cost will be on the card, but it will not count as a balance. Chase will not have much to cut, since the pre-charge is being used, even though it doesn't count as a balance..

But if Chase really wants to close you out, They decision may have already been made!..

Any time you book it.

Once you pay it off, even if the CL is cut to $xxx, FICO only cares about utilization.

$0 on a $500 or on a $5000 CL is still 0%.

I'd keep the card open after paying (with Discover card) it off. The point of paying (with Discover card) it off is to save on interest. Anything else is gravy. JMHO...

GOOD LUCK....

The only thing that prevents.

BALANCE CHASING.

...IS CLOSING THE ACCOUNT.

Not even sure "IF" they will approve that sale in the one single 24 to 48 hour period that your available credit limit is at it's max.

BEFORE THEY PULL THE TRIGGER.

(assuming it will happen).
