Quick question: Does circuit city accept debit Discover Card? Many thanks for any answer or 2. Another question on my mind: Hi all,.

I received a letter yesterday from NCO saying that Verizon placed an account of mine with them for collection. The letter included the debt validation notice..

This debt was from a Verizon DSL account that I canceled two months ago. When I canceled with them, I specifically asked if they would send me a paper bill (because I would no longer have an account to their online Account Center). They said they would, but I never received anything. I have been waiting for the bill, but that doesn't really matter now, does it..

So the question is what can I do now to minimize the impact on my credit report. I called Verizon and they said they can't do anything because it has been turned over to the collection agency. I did not call NCO..

If Verizon could show me a bill I would pay the amount to them, but I obviously don't want anything on my credit report saying that I didn't pay..

Is there any department at Verizon that could help me more than the standard account reps? If not, how should I proceed?.

Much thanks...

Ye, however you might want to make sure and wait for another person to confirm my answer as I am not sure. Better yet, why don't you give a call to the Discover Card guys because they can assist you better...

Ask Verizon to recall the debt from NCO. Ensure that NCO no longer has the account and is not reporting it. Verizon will not report the account themselves. Send the payment to Verizon after you are sure they own the debt again...

Will they do this? I thought once it became property of a collector that was it? How long after they have turned it over can you ask them to recall it?..

I had luck with planetfeedback.com.

Search for verizon and planetfeedback and you will find more info, but basically you just submit your experience on the website and I received a call back from Verizon Corp within a day or two and they were able to take care of everything for me...

If you don't hear back from her by tomorrow call her again, very friendly lady and she'll do anything she can. She does listen to her voicemail too, so hang in there...

Paper can be placed (worked on contingency) or owned (purchased by the collecting entity from the original creditor). NCO works both types of paper, but a fresh collection is ALMOST always contingency paper..

OP needs to avoid the front line toll-free CSR's for Verizon and deal with the ivory towers...the people in the executive offices actually have the power to accomplish resolution in cases where people are trying to pay an account off...

I would follow stefang's advice here. I also must agree with centex. My critical error was dealing with the folks in CSR and not the Execs first hand. If I had contacted those in the ivory tower, it would have been more likely that my account wouldn't have been updated with more derog entries..

I am still fighting this and will continue to do so along with paying (with Discover card) this account off in full...

I've followed stefang32's advice:.

Left a voicemail this morning, she called back within a few hours. She's going to recall the debt from NCO, said that Verizon had not reported this to the credit agencies, and is researching a few more items for me so I can pay Verizon directly. (I had a dryloop DSL account, so there's no phone number on account that I know of in order to use the automated billpay.).

She is also expressed interested in finding out what went wrong: why I never received a bill, etc..

This seems very promising. Thanks everyone for the help...
