My first question is Does anyone know what the song from the Discover Card advert is? Hoping for any answer or 2. My other question... Hi everyone,. |
Ye, but... you might want to make sure and wait for someone else here to confirm it as I am not very confident. Better yet, why don't you contact the Discover Card guys because they can give you help better...
I would never ever speculate on something like this. Pick up the phone, call them and make sure whoever you are talking to is knowledgeable and ask whatever question you have and make sure you are 100% satisfied. Ff not ask again or ask to talk to someone higher up etc....
This goes for this situation and any other situation that involves scenarios that have the "The $hit has hit the fan" potential... |
If you pay them on day 29 and they receive it, then you're not 30 days late...and they can't legally report you as such.....
Payment has to be received by the designated cut-off time...and since tomorrow (the 14th) is actually day 30, OP is asking for problems by waiting until the 15th to make payment..
In almost every instance of online payment on accounts, I could make a payment on a Monday but it won't actually come out of the checking account until Tuesday night at the earliest, but most don't come out until Wednesday or even Thursday night.... OP is playing with fire by not making a payment today (which is probably after the cut-off time anyhow). AND...if it is a local finance company being discussed, he can hand-carry a check today and it won't get deposited until tomorrow anyhow... |
I totally agree...hence my statement that if the OP pays on day 29, they're not 30 days late....
I'd be careful trying to "float" the check though...with luck the way it sometimes is, that would be the one time it goes through immediately (good old check 21 crap).. |
The concern with float is where a good old fashioned relationship with one's small local bank comes in handy...the bounced payment instead lands on the banker's desk for review the next business morning instead of being auto-rejected to the remitter. The banker then takes care of their good customer who they see on a regular basis in said small local bank..
Mega-banks suck... |
Thanks for all the replies. My bank is a small, local credit union ... and (if I was thinking) I would have just went to the finance company tomorrow and given them a paper check, instead of letting them do an auto-debit tomorrow. I just tried calling but they're closed for the day..
Oh well. Things always work out for the best, IMHO... |
So wait a minute. Lets say I have a gas card and it's due on the 1st but I pay it on the 6th, your saying that they can't consider that as a late payment? I think I'll be making a call to Chevron to get that 30 day late removed...
THEY can consider it a late payment, and charge you the late fee....
But they can't legally report you as 30 days late.. |
Right, but some try anyway..
Though I'm not even sure about the "legally" part. I think it's more of a CA guideline or rule, not actual law... |
Well, the credit report is stating that you're 30 days late.....
Would that be accurate if you paid 5 days late?.. |
So this should be a "easy" win for me by calling a cust. rep. or some sort of manager?..
It SHOULD be.....but document EVERYTHING...and record the call if legal in your state...otherwise put it in writing..
Good point..
Of late, though, I have seen some reports adding a new category... "Date of First Delinquency", and if I read this right it's a way to still ding someone without them actually getting a 30-day late... |
The DOFD has always been there...it's actually the only date required to be reported....it just hasn't been shown on consumer version of the reports....
I don't believe that it shows if you're a couple days late though...all it does is show the date of the first reported delinquency (ie the first 30 day late).. |
When I last got my scores from MyFICO there were several accounts that were included in my BK where I missed the last payment but they never went anywhere close to 30 days late. They were flagged as late by MyFICO for scoring purposes just as one account that I have that actually does list a 30-day late from several years ago..
I checked the reports from the CRAs themselves, and they list these same accounts with a "date of first delinquency" with no 30-day late at all. I posted this question here at the time, and several people said this was common. I had never seen it before... at least like this.. This post has been edited by.
