Ye, although you might wanna make sure and wait for another person to confirm my answer as I am unsure of myself. Better yet, why don't you give a call to the Lending Tree guys because they can answer you better...

Wow I just got names and SOcial Security numbers from that site. YIKES. That can't be good. All you would have to do is start using a phone book and list last names, and you got a Social Seciruty number with full name, etc...

What's even worse is that military retirement papers on file with county governments used to contain SS#'s. They only changed that a couple of years ago..

Well, this reminds me of my story, which I thought I'd share to possibly explain such a filing. About 2 years ago, I filed Ch. 7 BK for less than $10k debt. This occurred only because I had gotten in a hole with some credit cards from college and then about $4k in medical bills because of no insurance. Due to unemployment, I was unable to pay any of the bills for some time, except for borrowing money from parents and giving check payments over the phone to annoying collectors (I was so scared of them back then...wish those guys would call me now...lol). Anyway, I apparently ended up getting a judgement for one of the creditcards (balance of under $1k but w/ fees etc., balance of $2500 or so).
Speaking with an attorney, the only thing I could do to get the money was file bk and I needed the money to pay for college. So ultimately I filed bk at age 24, when I really didn't need to, since I was never served for the judgement and many of the other derogs would have been easily taken care of. I wish I would have found this board and other information before I filed the bankruptyc, however, a happy ending on the story...I have just graduated with a masters degree and have a stable job with decent pay. Now I am just waiting out the 10 yr bk listing on my credit but otherwise have positive accounts and continue to clean my report every month.. Sorry so long..... |

Wow! No wonder Capital One is in trouble! if you look up a number of BK cases you will see Capital One as a creditor in most of them. Many people are BKing on one, two, or even three Capital One card accounts...

I filed for BK on 12000. I did not know any better, I went to a lawyer looking for help, and he talked me into BK. Said it would be the best thing I ever did. After one year of repairing myself that was the best thing I ever did. If I would have known then, I would have started long ago...

That's very troubling, and a major cause for concern if you ever have to go there and still want to rebuild your credit (by using your SSN, of course). Some of them have already rebuilt it. What if some crook stole their SSN and started applying? It's amazing how the BK Court system is so careless in making all these SSN's accessible online. Identity thieves today can be as dumb as a post and still make it..
