Quick question: Does anyone know how a prepaid Discover Card works? Thanks for any comment. Another question I got... I had two questions about the sort of credit check an employer might do as part of a background check:. |

You betcha! but... you might wanna make sure and wait for another member here to confirm my answer as I am unsure of myself. Better yet, why don't you call the Discover Card guys because they can answer you better...

1) If they pull hard then, yes it will show. But if they pull soft then, no it won't show..
2) If they pull hard then it might or might not dpending on how it's coded. But more importantly, you have to realize that a job is more important than a hard inquiry!.. |
|
...and for the other-side of the story.
WHAT DOES THE HARD DO TO MAKE THE JOB APPROVED...THAT SOFT DOES NOT??? (not that they. NEED. Either). Why fill out an application or resume. .... WHY NOT JUST PULL A CREDIT REPORT AND MAKE THE OFFER FROM THE CREDIT REPORT???. This post has been edited by. GEORGE. : 11 January 2010 - 04:13 PM.. |

I wish it was that easy... and my salary is based on total CL available...
|
|
But my CLs have been only increasing. Even AmEx increased exposure limit...

|
OMG!?!?!?!?!?.
When did this happen??????. Have you told anyone????????.. |

Read my intro thread..
Http://creditboards....howtopic=422062. A pre-employment background check is what brought me here.. If you could find out who is doing the check and post it here, that would help a lot.. My check was with Kroll Factual Data - which sounds like a really scary heartless company bent on hosing people by tracking everything and jacking you when you least expect it.. In fact, when I had a problem, they were friendly, patient, understanding, competent and extremely helpful - very nice people. I was shocked.. Here are some basics to keep in mind:. 1. An employer is not permitted by law to see your credit report. They don't get (or really care about) your FICO.. 2. Most of the time, they use some 3rd party company (like Kroll) to pull your report, then run some kind of formula on your data - for Kroll, it appears to be based on the ratio of "good" accounts to "bad" accounts. I was told that paid collections are ignored, but outstanding collections are "bad" where as I have some paid off mortgages and car loans from way back that are "good". Also, with Kroll, any medical collection is somehow weighted less than a regular collection.. 3. Your employer should have some kind of objective criteria for you to meet - a clear, fact based "cut off". For me, the score had to be "60%" (60% good according to the formula) and I missed it by 7 points.. If you have a lot more "good" than bad, you will probably be fine. I had like 10 good, 10 bad - as far as I could tell. I have resolved 4 bad, 2 have already reported and I will probably pay the 5th bad tomorrow. That should make me 10 good, 5 bad which by all imagination should give me the bump I need.. This post has been edited by. Brawndo. : 11 January 2010 - 05:09 PM.. |

It really depends on your employment requirement and the 3rd party running the credit check. Most of my "employers" would not hire you if even you have ANY questionable item on your background and credit reports. ie 100 "Goods" and 1 bad, you are not selected...

So you could have.
ONE 30 DAY LATE. And 10 years of work history. (MORE). Than the other guy...and you still lose???.. |
|
It's possible (I think), but someone with 10 years of experience and skills is probably worth more than a 30-day late, and he/she probably can find many other employers easily...

With the respect due a senior member, without explaining what you mean by 'my employers', readers really are not served by this kind of cryptic response. Is this an MLM? Are you talking about stock brokers? Navy SEALs? Car Wash attendants? The Federal Reserve?.
It's hard to imagine a good business case for a zero tolerance policy on credit problems.. As for me, I am a head hunter that works the high end of the technical market. The company I am trying to get on with is a company that competes with companies like Google for talent. Their bar was 60%. Honestly, if I am as close as I am, I don't think it's much of a bar.. Still, every company is different. In my opinion, this kind of screen exists purely as a CYA move should they face some kind of audit (Sarbanes Oxley is the devil)... |

My "employers" are mostly in defense industry. But my point is that as I said in my previous reply, it really depends on employment requirements and the 3rd party doing the check. Many employers I know don't care about numbers, but care about the actual content...

WHY NOT???.
========================================. CAN'T PULL FOR. FROZEN. WITH NO DEALER SUPPLIED CAR LOAN. TAKE A HIKE. CAN'T PULL FOR. FROZEN. A CHECKING ACCOUNT or SAVINGS ACCOUNT. TAKE A HIKE. WHY IS THAT. HARD. MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SALE OF [insert item here**]???. **CELL PHONE...CABLE...UTILITY...ETC. This post has been edited by. GEORGE. : 11 January 2010 - 08:28 PM.. |

Even if it is a hard, some folks around here are fearful of getting a job that pays >250K.
OMFG!!!!!. An inquiry is so bad I'd rather flip burgers than make >250K!!!. !. !!. This post has been edited by. Hegemony. : 11 January 2010 - 08:29 PM.. |
