First off, Discover Card ATM'S IN Portugal, Algarve area.? Thanks for any answer. 2nd question I got is.. My chase platinum.

Credit card.

Is now the chase platinum.

Dreadit card.

By reason of severe rate-jackings..

It all started when I was on vacation and merrily going to the bank to take out a cash advance (it was actually cheaper to take an advance than to suffer with the low exchange rates for cash). A few weeks later and POW...a nasty surprise. My 5.99% fixed went to a 12.24% variable in no time flat..

WHY would Chase do this to a loyal customer who keeps his uti below 10%, has never been late, and brushes three times per day?..

Because they make money off people who are strapped enough to have to take a C.A..

Also they can then RJ based on higher risk..

Win-win for chase...

IMHO, I wouldn't say CU will never. They just won't AA for no good reasons..

And CUs are not too far behind banks...

I agree. CUs are less likely to take punitive actions. The wise consumer has multiple CUs in his or her stable. the unwise sleeps with just one or two large corporate issuers...

I do have one CU card with some history on it as a back-up..

But why would Chase rate-jack when I almost never use their card anyway? It's like saying to the customer standing outside the door, "hey, come on in! We've just doubled our prices!" Thank you, Chase Platinum shread-it card, for sending my rates up, up, and away...

They raised your interest rate to profit from your cash advances. After all, they are in business and profit is the name of the game..

If you don't use the card a lot, then why are you so worried? Just throw it in the sockdrawer and let it see daylight every two months or so..
