First off, Can I use my American Discover Card in Europe? Hoping for any comment. 2nd question I got is.. A couple of days ago I received an "Unknown caller" on my cell phone as I was driving home from work. I answered and it was a foreign lady. She started telling me something about legislation that will cause changes to my Discover credit card account....blah blah. To be honest, I'm hearing impaired and had an impossible time trying to understand her over the cell. |

Yes sir! but you might wanna make sure and wait for someone else here to confirm my answer as I am on the fence. Better yet, why don't you ask the Discover Card guys because they can assist you better...

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT....
==============================================. 800 number/toll-free calls €“ When you dial a toll-free number, the party you are calling pays for the call. The called party is able to identify your telephone number using a telephone network technology called Automatic Number Identification (ANI). Requesting privacy for your number when you call 800, 888, 877, and 866 numbers from your local telephone company may not prevent it's display to the called party. FCC rules, however, prevent parties that own toll-free numbers from reusing or selling the telephone numbers identified through ANI without the subscriber€™s consent.. And it's funny that people are willing to do business over the phone when they're trying to obtain a card. LOL..

Why don't I do business over the phone? Because I want to read and re-read the fine print....that's why!!! I want to do it at my leisure when I can check facts. I don't just "accept" something because someone says so over the phone. And I find it highly suspicious that a company....whose main objective is to make money from ME....is unwilling to send me something in writing that has to do with legislation. They don't have MY best interests at heart....they have theirs. So I need to make sure I understand all the terms and agreements for MY best interest. Does that mean I read all the T&C when I get them for everything? You bet your a$$ I do....and I now keep all that information after having been on CB for 4 years.
I'm glad you think it is "no big deal." Hope that works for you. And it wouldn't be to me if they'd just send me the crap in writing. I don't do verbal agreements FOR ANYTHING..... I've spent more frickin' money on attorneys (non-credit related) this year than on my mortgage. And I'm in a good position to be reimbursed BECAUSE I GOT $HIT IN WRITING. ETA - as for the lane changes, why do you think I told her I needed to get off the phone?? I wasn't at the lane change when I answered. I tried getting off the phone with her BEFORE I even got there and she wouldn't shut up. I could have just hung up, but I guess I wasn't brought up to be rude. I have to be really ticked off before I hang up on someone. This post has been edited by LadyRelm2: 28 January 2010 - 10:23 AM.. |

I don't know why they won't send it to you in writing....DirectTV keeps calling me trying to get me to agree to a "free movie" but that I have to buy one first and then they will give me a code to use, but I can only do it within 3 days or some crap. I don't know, I told them to forget it and to stop calling about it. I can't hardly understand a word that they were saying. They still tried to talk to me even AFTER I told them I wasn't interested. So I can imagine that's how CrapOne was with you.. ANNOYING.
As far as people pointing things out about OP being on the phone in her cargmab. This post has been edited by cfj503: 28 January 2010 - 12:20 PM.. |

Some are. If you have a verbal agreement, try to support it in court. It's a risk and potentially an unnecessary one. I guess it's your call when determining what level of risk you wish to play with. Personally I feel that legal agreements should always be in writing. Opt-in or opt-out is no exception, especially since in this case it authorizes an exchange of money and a contractual change to your account...
