Got a question... Can I get an FHA Lending Tree mortgage loan after claiming bankruptcy? Hoping for any answer. My other question... It makes more sense to me to NOT sign credit cards, check cards, etc.. |

You betcha! however you might want to make sure and wait for another commenter to confirm it as I am not completely sure. Better yet, why don't you email the Lending Tree guys because they can give you an answer better...

That's a good point..
So, the signature is really a useless verification tool either way.. ...If Joe Smith has better credit than me...that IS my name from now on! :). Radi8.. |

The point is also not that I offer my ID, but that I'd like.
To have a clerk ask for it.. <ARE YOU BAITING THE CASHIER???.. |

Do you people who are SO insistent on NOT showing some ID, I know, it's a labor intesive process of actually pulling your ID out with the card, get as pissed off at the airport when they ask you for ID even though you have a ticket or at the car rental counter even though you have a confirmation sheet in hand or when you use a check, etc, etc. The check has your signature, so that should be good enough The basis for asking for ID in ALL of these situations is trying to some extent to prevent crime. You are exactly right, the card states "Not valid unless signed". If a business does NOT want to check my ID, that is their choice and I will use the card somewhere else. Why is it SO important not to show another piece of ID as opposed to maybe preventing SOME people from illegally using the cards. Oh, but we get so ticked when our wallet is stolen and your bank account is drained, you limits are raised to the max and your report is shredded.
Now, they didn't deserve to have their car stolen, but anyone with an eight -grade education knows that leaving the keys in the car makes it EASIER to steal it. Same difference with the cards, why make it easier?? I never knew people were so strong in their beliefs not to prevent some occurance of crime. You get what you deserve on this one... |

I remember one time, my husband lost his Visa check card. Someone got a hold of it and charged 500 worth of merchandise in a few different stores. Why don't cashiers verify the card with the signature on the receipt??.
We disputed the transactions and were not responsible for the charges, but we were told by our bank that next to the signature to write "see ID"... |

Not at all. I've already said that I don't usually bring it up when clerks don't ask for my I.D. Most don't. But if a clerk actually looked at my card, saw that (in addition to my signature) it said "Ask for ID", and then the cashier told me "I don't have to ask you for your ID". I'd be offended. It shows no respect for the fact that I've chosen (indirectly) to pay their wages.
It would take them less time to just ask for my ID (by about three words).. Why don't I just offer my I.D.? Because a crook wouldn't offer my ID. And the reason I want clerks to ask for my ID, is to catch a CROOK if he or she has my card.. I can just see it:. Mr. Crook presents my card to Clerk.. Clerk looks at the signature box.. Clerk looks at the "reasonably similar" forged signature.. Clerk says Mr. FemaleName Ingenue, I don't have to ask you for your ID.. Mr. Crook gets away with using my credit card.. Or, alternatively, VISA refuses to pay for the charge after I report my card stolen, and Clerk gets chewed out by Accounting for letting Mr. Crook use my credit card.. -ingenue.. |
