Ye, however you might want to make sure and wait for another member here to confirm this as I am not very confident. Better yet, why don't you ask the Discover Card guys because they can give you an answer better...

Also, when I applied for the BA Visa, I put my household income and got denied initially because they couldn't verify my income to be that amount. So, I re-applied with just my income and it got approved immediately..
===============================. BUT IF THEY ASK FOR TOTAL GROSS H/H INCOME AND YOU DON'T PUT TOTAL GROSS H/H INCOME YOU ARE GIVING THE. WRONG. ANSWER. I would. NEVER RE-APPLY. With a. FALSE. Lower income to get a credit card. This post has been edited by. GEORGE. : 09 January 2010 - 10:25 AM.. |

..........Better hope that your creditors don't require that you prove up your stated income..........lol...

As a student you should be fine with putting down HHI if required (some student cards wouldn't get approved otherwise). A number of parents pay the bills while DS/DD is in college..
Nor do I see an issue with using HHI for spouses when one spouse stays at home to care for the kids or only works part-time so when each applies for CCs the HHI is used. Spouses often share bills, so why shouldn't they share income.. In your case, are you really one household with your relatives in the sense that you share income and bills? If yes, then the Discover credit card company shouldn't care.. On another topic, I take an issue with inclusion of roommates' or strangers' income in HHI to inflate approval CLs. On the upside Discover credit card companies are onto that and usually would discount stated income because many times stated income can't be substantiated. So in the end it doesn't really help that much. JMO... |

You appear to make even less sense as time goes by, George. Creditors look to establish the means & ability to repay amounts extended to borrowers, not from parties who cannot be held liable for repayment, thus prudently assessing & managing their risk. While individuals such as parents & others may choose to assist their household members to repay debt incurred, in most cases they have no liability to do so. For reasons such as the foregoing, companies such as Discover Card may wish to verify income stated on applications for credit. While I would agree that, prudently, they should undertake such actions PRIOR to the granting of credit, it is certainly within their right to do so at any time while credit has been extended to any borrower, whether it makes sense or not to you........or me.......or any other borrower...

That's been my issue with CU's - that they DON'T use HHI..
The single CU card I have is Alliant and it's joint - no other choice. I make a third what my wife does, and since our mortgage shows on my credit report, it appears that my monthly outgo is higher than my income. It really isn't when you consider my wife's income, which makes our DTI as a household just under 30% altogether... |
My anecdotal experience is that creditors are far more interested in your spending and repayment patterns than what you can prove on a paystub..
Internal algorithms.. |
Not Alliant CU. They straight out said they neither cared what my current limits were nor the fact that my wife pays the mortgage, my income was too low to qualify for.
Anything. At all without her being a co-borrower... |
Ya know... if most or all lenders did this, we probably wouldn't be in this knee-deep recession right now...
They don't need the BUSINESS...so be it.
They are the only one available to apply with???.. |

I've always lied on my income, I've had one out of 25 places actually call and check, and I was unemployed for 7 months after working for 10, but I usually doubled my income I didn't really know how much it factored into it but I figured more couldn't hurt, I know other countries they actually require proof of income like HSBC in foreign ones they say you must fax or mail in proof, crazy....
That's otherwise referred to as Fraud, under Title 18, US Code of Federal Regulations, and is a felony offense in the US...
Not a good idea..
Against Discover credit card agreement and probably against the law.. You could be hurting yourself more that way - you could be unable to discharge debt on cards obtained this way in a BK.. Easy to fall behind on CCs when you are Lt unemployed... |
This is one of those subjects were everyone has a different view. The only view that matters is the one the lender has...
I don't know where you live...but here they have to let one out of jail to add one more.
(not saying you have to lie on the credit application). EVEN IF IT IS A CRIME.... IS IT A HIGH PRIORITY ONE???. CANCEL THE CARD...REAL EASY. ...I had a few too many canceled and I didn't lie about. TOTAL GROSS H/H INCOME.. |
THEY HAVE BEEN CANCELLING CARDS RIGHT and LEFT AFTER THEY PULL.
"IT IS JUST BUSINESS". OUT OF THEIR BUTT.. |
Thanks Bob..
Not that fiction writers wouldn't take liberties..... |
Not to mention issuers reacting with CLD, and other AA once they see a low spend/pay behavior...

+1.
If a bank were to audit me, my personal income would not be sufficient to support my debt/loans. My personal DTI is like 200%, because I have 1099 income, own my own business, and have two mortgages/2 houses. DW's income is from payroll, and she files separately (to avoid the damn AMT). Our joint DTI is probably <10%. Hopefully I never get a F/R.. |
GEORGE.
REFUSE THE F/R AND TELL THEM WHERE TO SHOVE IT. If I ever do get an F/R from Amex, which I don't see happening as I only have a 3K limit, this would be my strategy... |
