Yesterday I had my annual review (I met expectations) and I was pleasantly surprised to find out I got a bonus. $700 big ones which will show up on next weeks paycheck and be quite a bit less after taxes.
Honestly, I was surprised, but mostly because I was expecting a raise. I’m kind of bummed that for the second year in a row they haven’t given out raises (at least to me). I know they had a very limited amount to work with this year and the raises went to people that we making much less than me. I also know that I’m an idiot for whining about getting a bonus. I must remind myself to be appreciative of having a job at all. And I just found out today that some people didn’t get raises OR bonuses…so I’m doubly appreciative.

Sometimes it’s hard to think outside of your own experience, but like you said, you have to put it into perspective. Like you, I haven’t seen a raise in two years (or a bonus, for that matter), but I must remember to be thankful that I have a FT job with a good salary in this economy. So congrats on your bonus, and good luck with your move this weekend!
Congrats on the bonus! At least it’s something.
I know the feeling about not getting a raise… I got a $1200 (pre-tax) raise a year ago, but that was because I got a new position. Company hasn’t done cost-of-living increases in 2 years, though we DID get decent bonuses the last 2 years… so I can’t complain!! However, it IS frustrating since I know I’m one of the lowest paid employees since I started at the bottom end of the salary range…
