I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the right answer. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I bump into an decent answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could give you help..

AU accts nuked your score like that?.
Yet another instance that brings one closer and closer to concluding. Both Fair & Issac were smoking opium when they worked up the algorithm.. This post has been edited by. Sonicanatidae. : 14 January 2010 - 06:09 PM.. |

Don't have any data points to add but AU accounts count with pre-FICO08 score models..
FICO08 had to allow for AU accounts to count somehow if they involved spouses to comply with ECOA. Most lenders do not rely on FICO08 yet.. Score effect from adding an AU account should be ~ to score effect from adding a regular account with the same history, CL, util, derogs.. Accounts with perfect payment history & util below your average util & age > your own AAoA (ideally, also above your max age of accounts) would result in the most significant boost.. The score change should really depend on how thin/thick the file is and how much the AU account differs from the average profile of your other accounts. For thin and young files, even a single old, low util account can make a big difference. For thick, aged profiles it shouldn't matter as much... |

Stuff in red: I don't know why, but this is not computing with me right now....we don't have any significant hx with open accts right now, as I stated because the one loan was paid off..
Being added on an acct with perfect history and some "major" age (as compared to our AAoA) I think will help.. Bold: That's what I'm hoping for...the 2 CO's left are @ 2yrs since CO or past that mark. DOFD was well over 2 yrs ago.. It's hard when you have a THIN file!!!! I'm going to do the CU 1-2 punch next week I think with some help from a CA...AHAHA!.. |

There are MANY reasons why an AU account might not result in an increase. Young age or poor utilization come immediately to mind. The decrease reported by jotoast are no different than what one would see if they went from their own good credit to letting an account get to a chargeoff status...the first negative absolutely tanked a score in earlier models..
AND...if you cannot deal with the fallout on a bad AU account and the inherent risk related to the account, then one should ALSO not be willing to use them for gain. You cannot have it both ways. Personally, I would rather they just go away except in the specific manner contemplated by ECOA provisions... |
