A Solid Gold Weekend

by Forest on March 29, 2010

Bird and I had a great weekend and one of the best parts is that it didn’t even cost us that much money.

Friday night, Bird and I biked over to her parent’s house for some BBQ and basketball.  We had a fabulous dinner and then enjoyed some March Madness.  Biking home in the dark was kind of crazy (and cold), but a fun adventure as well.

I spent Saturday morning watching English soccer games and cleaning the house while Bird worked on her schoolwork.  I also set up my first facebook advertising campaign on Saturday morning.  I was advertising Mr. Rebates (I’ve also added a banner to this site), but after 5,000 some impressions, I received zero clicks.  :)   It was my first try at pay-per-click advertising and it was fun and I’m definitely going to try it again.  Later that evening we had a wedding reception to attend.  The couple had gotten married in February with a small family ceremony and then had their reception for friends this weekend.  From a financial standpoint, we spent around $50 on a wedding gift.   It was fun to see some friends we haven’t seen in a while, but we didn’t stick around all night because we had to get to a birthday party.

A very special golden birthday party for one of Bird’s best friends.  Everyone was required to wear gold (I wore a gold tie to the wedding) and the house was decked-out with gold decorations.  Have I ever told you how much of a fan I am of themed-parties?  We had so much fun catching up with old friends and making new ones.  This party was for sure the highlight of the weekend.

On Sunday morning, I tried to go out and get back into book selling.  It’s been so long since I’ve been book hunting, unfortunately, the whole city had the same idea as me.  The local used bookstore was packed…I couldn’t believe it.  I couldn’t even get near the shelves so I headed to the thrift store.  Didn’t find any winners.  On the way home, I drove through the used car section of a local dealership.  It was kind of fun to dream about our next car (3-5 years from now, I think).  At home, I watched the Liverpool v. Sunderland soccer game and then after lunch we took Bird’s parent’s dog for a walk around a local lake.  It was a gorgeous day and it felt great to get out and get some fresh air.  When we got home we threw open the windows and enjoyed it even more.

We have Up in the Air from netflix, but for some reason, we just weren’t in the mood for it, so we continued our journey through Arrested Development (we are now on the final disc and will be sad to see it come to an end!).  Then there was more basketball (yay, Duke) before we headed to Target for groceries.  We got sidetracked by sunglasses (which is another post) and ended up spending $99 at Target.

All in all, it was a great weekend.  How was yours?
